Land Rovers are one of the best 4x4s on the planet. They have no more problems or cost any more to fix than any other 4x4. Priced a Toyota engine lately? I have had and driven most and value for money Landies win hands down, no contest. Most of the negative comments come from Bozo's who have never ...

2 stroke diesel

Detroit mad a v8 2 stroke diesel and other variants. These are reasonablly common around the traps in trucks. Listen at night near a main truck arterial road and you can here them quite clearly over all else. My old man used to drive one and they sound and drive great.

Cats

Tony, I think having 3 Rovers is testament to this, but I think the guys at Solihull left the cats in on export and they hid until they got to my place and then escaped through one of the gaping chasms. I am sure that there must have been more than one in at least one of my Rovers because they must ...

84 RR Transfer Case Problems Please Help

Guy's, have been having some dramas with the transfer case in my 84 RR Classic. It is an L230T with a R380 5 speed manual. The dramas really started one day going to work when all of a sudden no drive. No sudden noise, bangs or bearing whine. Locked the centre diff in and it drove in diff lock ...

TD5 Defender

The TD5 is as reliable as any other 4wd on the market, The build quality is not fantastic and the ergonomics deplorable, but if you can live with it and more impotantly your front passenger can then they are a great 4wd with plenty of room. Mine has done 81k and is performing faultlessly. I am in ...

Ahhhhh NO. Its a Hummer wannabe. Stay with the typical shape, just update the interior to make it semi comfortable and give some legroom.

Defender

Defender 2000 Extreme`: Great off roading, size no problem as they sit so high as standard. Turning circle 3 football fields (nearly about 12m). Economy fair. Parts, bloody dear for TD5, but hey tdi parts were to start with too. Great power for a small diesel. Poor ergonomics for the 21st century ...

Disco or Rangie

I have presently a 84 series 2 Rangie and a 2000 Deaf Ender Extreme and prviously had a 97 tdi Disco. The Rangie is a great play toy and not a bad tourer, Lacks load room though. The Disco is a good all rounder, great tourer, has more luggage room and seating is much better in the rear for kids. The ...

Lucas Cav and Racor Filters

Is anyone out there using a Cav or Racor fuel filter assembly? What one is recommended and why? Am looking at putting one on the Defender TD5 shortly. Is there an application guide anywhere (can not locate one on the net) as there are a couple lying around and if one fits will save buying one. Any ...

You can put a full size battery in if you relocate the power steering fluid resevoir back a couple of inches, may also need a snorkel depending on air box type. Both sides of engine bay are battery cradles. Would turf the split system and get a reputable module/solenoid set up TJM, Piranha etc.

I used to think manuals only in a 4wd as can be started by pushing if your starter packs it in. After driving a mates auto Rangie with a 308 and a couple of TDI Discos I would now have an auto in my next 4wd or if the 5spd in my Rangie dies. Maybe just a matter of carrying a spare starter for those ...
