Yes they do have a timing chain, rattle could be that, not that hard to change. Also if the rattle is at idle and tends to quieten down when the engine is warm it could also be gudgeon pins worn. The big question is how many kilometers has it done and has it had a hard life. Is the rattle from the ...

RE: Hubs

Thanks for all the info I will see if I can chase up a standard axle housing, I supose the wreckers will want a arm and a leg for one. I think that will be the best way to go and will be a much more reliable mod.
Thanks heaps

free wheeling hub coversion 0n a 4runner

I have picked up a set of free wheeling hubs to suit my 4runner, it also has toyota's automatic disconecting differential. Is there anything I should know about or change in order to fit these hubs. Do i have to worry about the add axle or is it all good and an easy change.
Cheers

re conversion

You may find that the bell housing is different but that is a bolt on deal, the starter motor on a 3y/4y is on the drivers side but on a diesel i am pretty sure it is on the passenger side, also youmay have differences with flywheels and clutches ,exhaust and of course issues with electrics for glow ...
