Re: tb42 &tb42e

I agree, most would have more than 250,000Km. But provided they have been treated right, I think that is not too many Kms. My carby version doesn't have electronic ignition, it goes fine. Just needs the points done every so often. Yeah, that can be a bit of a pain, but they are cheap and easy enough ...

Re: gq alternator upgrade

Yeah pretty much... When my GQ (50A) alternator died, I found that a GU one would fit (100A). The plug is the same, but the wiring had to go around the air-filter box bracket the other way to reach it. It reaches without having to stretch it too much. That was just because the location of the plug ...

it should run at 81 or 82 degrees from memory according to the service manual. You could replace the whole cooling system componentry. You could run on Petrol as it burns cooler. You could spend loads of money doing upgrades and mods and buying new parts. If you don't have heaps of money to burn, I ...

you don't have to replace the whole system when all it needs is a tune up, new points cost $8.

Of course if you want electronic that's entirely different. I'd be keeping the cash for real upgrades though

Hi guys, my dad's mate is selling a SWB 1985 Patrol with a turbo diesel. Just wondering if that is a MQ and what size would that motor be?

Also, how much fuel (L/100km) would it use city driving.

My GQ developed a clacky sound in the back after my last camping trip. I traced it back to the small back door. These high flow filters are not doing your engine any real benefit. They can cause the engine to run lean and move your torque curve to where you don't need or want it. This starts the "chasing the tail" syndrome associated with modifying cars. Soon you have replaced the exhaust and changed the cam ...
