I'm not 'up to' anything except thinking out loud. However, having two systems COMPLETELY independent of each other has advantages. No matter which battery management system you have it is still possible to get stuck, particularly if one battery shorts out and it takes the second one out when they ...

Twin Alternators

Anyone fitted a second alternator ? I'm buying a dual-fuel 80 and would like to have a completely independent second battery setup.

Pics would be great for ideas. Doesn't have to be of a petrol 80.

Thanks 80UTE. The 6.2 has 12 holes around the H/balancer and I've tried using a mag pickup and 3 bolts thru the balancer to give a 3-pulse-per-rev as you describe. However, I can't seem to get enough signal to activate the tach. Being a petrol tacho I thought it would be fairly easy but the ...

GM V8 Conv - Tacho ?

What's everyone do to have an operable tacho on a 6.2/6.5 conversion ? Mine has never worked since the conversion but it's one of those things I'd love to finish. Besides, the A/C gets a feed signal from the tach and without it, I've had to hotwire the A/C and it doesn't cycle. This results in a ...

Hmmm, For years I used a dash of metho in the tank to make any water mix with the fuel and get burnt off. As I see it, there should be less, not more, free water in an E10 tank and so you should suffer less water induced corrosion not more. Did I only recently hear that Brazil has passed 2 million ...

Weight is one issue, but so is drag. As stated, SLOW DOWN (pretty easy in a 2H :P ). Years ago there was a caravanners rule that 5MPH=5MPG. Is still fairly accurate today. I wanna have two completely independent battery systems. Only way to do it is use two alts. I figured that while I was at it, I could make the second alt a welder as well. Everything needs to be spotlessly clean and smooth. Did you use a good silicone sealant on the outside of the seal where it mates the block and the sump ? It should only leak statically as the CDR should provide suck, not blow, with the engine running. Not telling you how to suck eggs, but is it ...

I can't see the logic to this. I'm sure petrol won't ignite from compression the same way diesel does. Now, the petrol may be ignited once the diesel starts burning, anfd result in a cleaner burn ?? I'd really appreciate photos of people's V8 conversions. Why ? :?: I did my GM V8 Dsl conv back in 1998 and have never been happy with the ancilliaries brackets (PS, Alt, A/C, etc). Up here in the tropics the auto helmets often have problems from moisture ingress. Usually from sweat.

The cheaper autos usually have a smaller field of view compare to the old CIG 'Hideroc' manual helmet as well.

Depends on how your trailer is setup. Usually, I ratchet-strap the vehicle forward hard up against the front rail. I also add chains on the back in case the load decides to go forward. The rear chains are always slightly loose, and act as insurance, they don't hold the load. For long trips, I add ...

Sounds like a perfectly serviceable 'open' differential to me. If your vehicle is fitted with an LSD, it's not working. LSDs usually require rebuilding at about 20-40,000kms. The rear left wheel is unloaded because of gravity pitching the car down hill. Only way to fix it is to fit a good LSD or a ...

I think the AP60 is merely a later version. Either will work great. The AP60 has a different connection method (no chain link) than the AP50 which may have been legislated for safety reasons. I have had excellent service from the AP50 in my FJ60, and have a brand new AP60 in a box I was going to fit ...
