Got a radiator shop to pressure test it. They couldn't find a leak, but as it is such a pain to remove, decided to buy a new core anyway. Likely that an internal O-Ring in the tank is stuffed.
Thanks for the help.

Re: GQ Heater Core Drama
Yeah, all the hoses etc, are still connected. Tried the same test, underwater in hot water, and filled it up with boiling water (burnt my tongue too, cos I'm a spaz). Still couldn't get it to leak. Hopefully a radiator shop can test it better than I can.

Re: GQ ingition off high current draw
Cheers.
Yeah, I bought it from Repco, so there shouldn't be too much drama with a return.

GQ ingition off high current draw
A few weeks ago, the alternator in my TB42 GQ croaked it. After replacing it, everything seemed fine (good 14.5V charge), but the next day, the battery was completely flat. Charged it up, and connected an ammeter to it. It's drawing 2.5amps with the ignition off. If I disconnect the white spade ...

GQ Heater Core Drama
Ever since I bought my GQ (TB42), when I'd turn the heater on, I had a slight coolant smell. As the car wasn't overheating, I didn't worry too much (although I kept an eye on the coolant level, and had to give it a little extra every now and again. Fast forward to a ouple of weeks ago...Was driving ...

First thing to check is the fuse from the battery to the relay, if that fails.... Use a multimeter to test for power on the relay while the spotlights are on. Check voltages on pins 86, 87 and 30. 86 is +12V from the switch, 30 and 87 are the switched circuit going from direct to the battery on one ...

Re: 24 volt to 12 volt
Hey all, quick question for a mate. Whats involved in converting an MQ/MK 24volt diesel into 12 volt? He has two trucks one is 12v and other is 24v. so should have all necessary parts (starter, alternator etc). Cheers Adam Starter motor and alternator, (I think the alternator brackets might be ...

Isn't your garage too full of car parts to fit your 4x4 in anyway? mine is...I used to park my car in there....for about 3 weeks...now i'd be lucky if I could fit a pushbike in there, let alone a 4x4. On a serious note..you said modding the garage is out of the question? Why? If it costs a couple of ...

What voltage is the laptop that you plan to use? IE what does the charger/adaptor say on it for OUTPUT? If your laptop is 15 volt or less, just get a plug that fits the laptop and wire it straight to the battery. A few of my mates have been doing this on boats for about 5 years. One mate of mine ...

Re: NTN
Never trust 24V - ask my mate - douing 12V swap this weekend.... got sick of on board fires..... Expensive and not worth it - just by 12v loom/bit - much easier and more reliable too. Mk Why do you say that 12Volt is more reliable?? And why on earth do you think that 24Volt is more prone to fires ...

Use one of those, and either modify it to suit, or install a USB socket in your dash...only have to connect the power (with a $7 voltage convertor kit from Dick Smith)

That's what i'm doing to my 4b.

Cutting the length of a shifter doesn't make it a short throw shifter. You have to change the pivot points of the shifter itself so you don't have to move it as far to change gears. This in turn will give you less leverage and will make it harder to change gears. If the box is a bit sloppy then get ...

If the problem is heat not escaping, maybe something like an LH/LX Torana bonnet scoop (reverse scoop, so hot air gets sucked out the back of the bonnet up onto the windscreen), would help it? 24V questions
G'day...i'm about to buy a 24Volt Nissan Patrol, and I have a few questions before I delve into owning a car that has an electrical system that I don't fully understand. 1. If I get a flat battery out in the bush, will someone, with say a 12Volt Hilux, be able to give me a jump start? 2. What are my ...

Use a multimeter and check the voltage at the back of the headlights. If it's more than about .2 volts less than measuring the voltage directly across the battery, put a relay in. G'day, i got a 1990 1.3Lt Zook, for the last few weeks it's been running absolutely TERRIBLE...almost undriveable. It idles really low (as low as 400revs), sometimes the idle jumps up to 1300rpm....it seems to have a mind of it's own. The last week, it got a hell of a lot worse, and now it is ...

I'd go a TH400 if I were you. I had one in my Nissan G60 behind a reasonably 'warm' 308 (cam/exhaust/extractors/carb), and I used to be able to stick it in neutral, hit the loud pedal till the needle bapped 5g's, put it back into drive, no worries. Spoke to an auto trans place near me (the guy used ...
