I've put a 78/79 series grille on a 1987 HJ75. Minor mods were needed. The two lower mounting tabs on the radiator support panel had to be tweaked to line up with the holes on the newer grille (this is also the case when I tried to fit a 1990-1999 grille on the car). The centre support hole also did ...

Azza, I may have erred in my assumption that your ute is a diesel and has the iron H55f gearbox and the 60 series type BF1A transfer case. You mentioned you think the gearbox is an H150f/H151f. Is your ute a 24 valve petrol FZJ75? If it is, you should have the H150f alloy gearbox and the later 80 ...

So your H150F, what is it out of? A HDJ78/9 or a HZJ80? Does the H150F have mounting bosses on the side for that FZJ75 transfer shifter? Mine is out of an HZJ80. It does indeed have the drilled and threaded mounting bosses: http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f241/beanz2/outerlimits/HZJ80gearbox.jpg ...

Uh, I got the disc brake date messed up. The start date for rear disc brakes is May '93  Yeah, in 1990 the front CVs got an extra reinforcing ring around the bell, but I don't know if they are that much stronger. The 1FZFE is heaps faster than the 2H, but it's quite thirsty for petrol. If I am ...

I've been contemplating the same into a 75 series troopy but due to shifting houses the project has been on hold. I have an H150f sitting on the garage floor atm. From what I can see, the only major difference is the location of the transfer control. The 80 series transfer has its shifter on top ...

Yup, you can do it all under the car by feel, but if you unbolt the crossmember from the frame and lower the transfer with a floor jack it's heaps easier. The gearbox has no breathers that I can find. I connected the breather lines from both diff housings and the transfer together, routed both lines ...

As long as we are talking about the 75 series, not the 2000+ 79 series, the major difference is the engine and the front diff. 1985-1989: Diesel: 2H 6-cylinder engine, 3B 4-cyl available in other markets, e.g. Europe. Petrol: 3F 6-cylinder. 1990-1999: Diesel: 1HZ 6 cyl. , 1PZ 5 cyl. available in ...

just wonted to know if anyone if getting parts from over seas and will there trucks differ from our hiluxes, Besides the obvious RHD to LHD difference, our Toyota "mini trucks" started to differ in 1986 when IFS was introduced. By 1995, when ours became the Tacoma, it no longer shares many parts ...

HZJ75's had H55f 5 speeds. Only when the HZJ78/79 came the gearbox was changed to the R151f. All 60 series with 5 speed also came with the H55f. The problem with these is that the shift tower is located further aft on the body that the 45 floorpan needs to be cut to suit. The best 5 speed to use ...

The 1UZ-FE is an engine meant for passenger cars and the peak torque horsepower may be higher in the rpm range whereas the 2UZ-FE is meant to be for heavier vehicles such as the 100 series and the peak power production may be at lower rpm's. Do you have the torque figures at certain rpm to compare ...

The turbo may be too big for the engine. Was the turbo meant for the engine?Sprint666 wrote: I currently am running a 2.8 diesel, with a after market turbo system. It is currently set to 7 PSI, and the lag is bloody shocking, however once its starts to pick up in the revs, about 2500 it flows real well,

Brian, I'm not an 80 series driver, but I am betting it is in the lift and resulting uni joint angles, like Andrew said. It sounds like when you remove the rear driveshaft out of the drivetrain the noise disappeared. I'd take an angle finder and measure the transfer output flange and compare it with ...

Most cruiser axles I have taken apart have had equal or almost equal thicknesses and number of shims on top and bottom, but there are a few that don't. An easier and perhaps cheaper way is to get another swivel housing from the wrecker and be sure they leave the shims in the correct order. If you ...

Yes you will end up with discs on the rear. you will need the backing plate rotors and drum hand brake set up. but as stated above you will need the later 70 housing. You should still be able to use your standard 70 handbrake cable. Cheers. Dave. You'll find the drum brake hand cable is a little ...
