Re: 1uz in a 120 series prado

My wifes 2003 has the 4.0lt

ok my one is a 2003 it has a 4.0lt

I also own a 120 with the 4.0L and had the 1uz in my old Lux. I wouldnt bother changing it. IMHO for the amount of work, effort and inherent problems any engine conversion brings it wouldnt be worth it. I also think the 2uz is not ...

Re: 99 IFS Diff Gears?

Hey mate 4.88s are what you want, 3rd gen 22R powered Luxes ran 4.88s standard so you can get 2nd hand diffs for them pretty cheap.

Re: I love my Hilux, but .....

That could work, but if i bought the 100 series TD i was looking at, and kept the lux, i would be up for about $1600 a year in Rego, and $2K a year in insurance!

If the Lux was only for playing in and weekends then just insure it for 3rd party property. That way your covered should you ...

Re: 1uz hilux fuel issues??

I ran mine with the standard 3rz fuel pump and tank without issue, never starved of fuel on an incline and never suffered low fuel pressure either. While a swirl pot is one way to do it a 3rz tank and pump is probably cheaper and easier.

If I was buying again I would probably try and find the extra for the hydro. Simply because my shed is not that big and being bolted to the floor is a pita, it always seems to be in the way.

For a diesel powered tourer, Id say a 02SR5 on with the TD engine and a coil sas up front.

The later SR5s have the niceties the older ones missed out on. The later the model the better the extras get. The 02-04 would have enough to keep me happy.

As others have said not sure where you get the easiest conversion from? Generally the easiest ones are the most common as you have a lot of knowledge to draw on.

If it were me I would go a 1uz the crap about parts being expensive is exactly that, crap. If the 1uz wasnt liked then the 304 would be ...

I ran an alloy dual core and never had overheating issues with it up front. On the rear was the same problem Hobzee described. I ran twin AU thermos originally and down the track due to bodylift removal had to run a large Davies fan also without issue.

Scott at Venom Cobras does an alloy one that ...

As above IFS and Flex dont go together, imo dont make the rear too flexy as it makes it even more unstable. Especially on climbs pushing the front skyward and trying to flip the vehicle.

The AU also has the 2300Kg towing capacity, so it wouldnt currently be illegal.

IMO for the money you would be hard pressed finding something much better, a GQ Patrol may use less fuel but when not towing the Falcon would be a better drive car. At the weights mentioned the Falcon shouldnt have a ...
