Yeah, I tried the thermo only in a shroud and it woudn't work on the highway. I worked on it until midnight for a 5 o'clock start to cruiser park once and only got to the Caloundra turnoff from Maroochydore before I had to turn around because it just got too hot. I had a 75 with a 308 & T400. The only downside was going down hills. Exellent for everything else. Keeping cool was also a problem but radiator on the tray with thermos cured that.

If you can get a hold of some standard height 80 series front springs (4 off) this will give you 4 inches of lift.

I had a holley 2 barrel injection on a 308. It was down a little on performance but at least you new you were going to get up the hill. Too many near misses with both holley and rochester carbies.
