Re: cracked front mounts

In the end I had mine drilled and welded, also went back to standard bushes. Can't comment much on the longevity of the repair as it has been off the road for a few years for modifications. From the time of repair I drove approximately 5000k's and had no further dramas. Next mod equals new front ...

Re: Glazed bores

Slosh you are right, too many beers last night whilst typing, we some engines the oil pump is driven off the dissy shaft so you can bring oil pressure up with a drill. Once started bring up to 2000/ 2500 rpm no load to bed in cam like you said for around 10 minutes. By then the engine is well and ...

Re: Glazed bores

Glazed bores occur due to combustion temperatures not being high enough to burn all the fuel and oil in the combustion chamber. This generally occurs more with two stroke diesel's when left to idle for too long. Most detroit diesel have a high idle built into the governor to prevent this, by ...

I looked at doing this ages ago. You will need a new bellhousing, torque convertor, and the shift patterns are different from what i have been told. As above I wouldn't do it unless it was hdt or better.

Re: Michelin XML

These tyres are excellent when run a heavy vehicle. Having spent a lot time with the above vehicle and the tyres, I would not recommend them for general 4wd use. They are very expensive, road noise is massive, little to none side traction, and not the best wear rate. There has always been a long ...

Re: Any detroit diesel experts here 6V53T

The only thing I can think of is that the fuel passes through galleries in the head. At no point in time fuel comes into contact with the oil. The only way I can see this happening is that there might be a crack in the passages somewhere, but fuel is at a higher pressure, so one would think that ...

Re: 80 series diesel (fuel issue)

I used to have the same issue, and i thought it was a small air leak somewhere, however after testing i couldn't find any. Anyway what my next assumption was maybe i had to much slip in the fuel pump (within the injector pump) and fitted a low pressure, low volume electric lift pump. I never had a ...

Re: Coilover angle

From my understanding with what you want to do with your truck, I would try and achieve a vertical angle at full compression. The more you angle the shock the heavier the valving and spring rate would need to be, to accomplish your body height, suspension frequency, and travel of the suspension. How ...

I was wondering if anyone would be able to enlighten me with the impact of the angle of a CV's, verses the speed in which it is rotating. I have found info in regards to operating angles of UJ's and speed in which they can operate at, however i can't seem to find anything about CV's. I understand ...

Re: 6V92 turbo?

I have worked on the 6v53 bronze series and the 6v53t silver series DD engines. Besides internal differences the 6v53t has a blower bypass valve as the turbo will out spool the blower. The injectors are different but this can be found from dd website from memory. I can't remember the exact size of ...

have you thought of not using the factory rubbers to the gearbox mount and instead using a bush style arrangement. I guess they would need to be compact to not inpeed in your ramp over clearance. this style may allow for extra mounting points for belly pans and or slider mounting options. When ...

I looked into doing this two years ago and the biggest problem was getting a bellhousing. All wreckers wanted to sell me was a complete transmission, they would not seperate. The torque convertors are different to, the diesel has a higher stall and a beefier one way clutch. shift points from memory ...

i found that running the castor correction in a poly bush would cause all the stress to go straight into the mounts and cause it to crack in the middle. The rubber bushes allowed for more flex within the bush before putting the load into mounts.

Re: Roll cages now illegle in Vic.

I am building mine around these rules and you can have a roll cage fitted to a vehicle, provided you follow the head clearance guidelines. In order to fit mine I had to lower the seat mounting bases and fit the lowest profile seats I could get to ensure that I had the required head space for legal ...

tray mounting options

I have come to the stage where I need to make a tray for the 80 series, I have a design in my head but I am unsure how to mount it to the chassis. I was thinking of fish plating the chassis where the mounts need to go and with a 15mm pad on the plate tapped to accept 4 bolts and mounting the tray to ...

Are you sure you got the right bearings and or spacer? If possible compare the size of new bearings to old and check for size difference.
