Any sound like that is a sign that something is not right. Sounds like excessive backlash in the main mesh if it is a significant noise. This would either be created by a worn bearing or some other part wearing out.

Yeah all these designs of twin head compressors have trouble with performance, they are great on the first tyre and then die fast after that.....

BE careful with the removable handle, if it is not fully inserted into its seat when jacking it can crack the seat itself. This doesnt make it fail catastrophically but it does render it useless. Have only seen this happen twice but it is twice as often as it should happen.

One of the blokes I work with has a GU 3L Turbo Diesel. It has been running like a champion since he got it. He recently swapped out the fuel filter and he is now having alot of problems, he has done the fuel filter a couple of times before but never had this problem.
