I have asked 20 or 30 experienced trailer builders, bushies, trailer parts suppliers and the majority (say 75%) say you should use slippers when building a leaf sprung off roader for the outback. But without fail 4x4, car or bike people on forums will disagree tell people to install eye to eye. I am ...

Alcohol fuelled random musings: This concept of "winch first / lockers later" - does it work? Get stopped, break out the winch, continue. Do you ever learn to drive the obstacle, or do you simply drag it? Once you become accustomed to winching everywhere do you ever feel the need to buy a locker ...

Thanks Scott, i hear what you're saying. Its not an easy decision, but i am leaning towards a winch, if i really feel i need a locker after a trip or two i will get one.

I need to decide by the end of the week.

I am about to go shopping for bits for my NM Pajero. Its used for 80% road and kids to school and 20% camping, getting to trailriding and soon to be som northern treks. we are interested in touring, not rock climbing or mud bashing. Yeah that sounds a bit light weight. I would always buy them from a proper trailer supply place too...not from any box mover type stores.

Mine has 8 or 9 leafs.

Towing a mid size camper trailer (big enough to require trailer brakes) behind ours we would get about 17L/100km.. Also the 3.5 V6 can be a bit underpowered when fully loaded for the hills and such. If you find a turbo diesel over the petrol I would. Much more balanced car. If the pajero club can't ...

NM Exceed: Braking Noise/Vibration

I have an NM Exceed with 150km. Recently it developed a noise, a kind of grinding noise. Sounds like it was out pads, pulled both wheels off and it has 85% pads left. The noise only comes on after you been braking and are almost coming to a stop. I think it might have happened after they replaced ...

I just bought a 98 Bravo Dual Cab 2.6 - can anyone tell if these cars have catastrophic failures when the timing belt snaps? (bent valves etc?) or is no big deal at all?

Thanks Scott. Yeah i like the idea of a TD Rodeo or Hi Lux.

So stay clear of 2.4 Hiluxs for daily drivers? 2.8 is fine? even non turbo?

I notice unless you get SR5 you have a vinyl interior etc, is Rodeo the same, or a little more car like inside?
