Yeah Mate they are a heap of crap. Mine went after 120,000kms mates went at 125,000. Its always fifth gear seems engine has got to much torque for the box. Very common problem ask any gearbox person.

Hope the leads help. Here is what I did. Get one ten year old son with skinny arms show him what you want done and tell him you will give him five bucks if he gets it on. Pick him up throw him in engine bay the hold on to him really tight so he is nice and steady you have to hold him around the knee...

Its almost like the saying if you need to know the fuel consumption you can't afford it. You have to remember these are a big heavy vehicle that will use a shit load of fuel. If you take it off road expect to double or triple fuel consumption. If you want economy buy a Corolla. If anything get a TB4...

Dont forget the two little bolts at the front of the head. From memory 8 or 10 mm. These are easily missed.

When I replaced my head three years ago used new bolts and a new water pump. You can never be too careful with these heads. Has done 123000 hard klms no problems touch wood. Who did your head reco?

Is it EFI or carby. If it is efi there is a bleeder nut on top of inlet manifold? Checked for water leaks anywhere else. Remember this engine is apperantly of Ford design you gotta expect this shit. My head cracked exactly one year after it was replaced luckily got it under warranty but had to fight...

Finally got to have a look at motor today. It is stuffed brushes are completely worn and one of the arms holding the brushes has a huge crack through it.

Had the same problem recently. Turned out to be a hose that would only leak while engine was running as soon as motor stopped leak stopped and as was spraying onto motor almost dried instantly so couldnt tell by inspection for water leaks. After saying that TB42 motor is renowned for cracking heads....

Just fitted one last week. At first was a little bit shuddery (a new word?). Have done 2000kms shudder is almost gone. Had flywheel machined AND balanced was tols this was very important.

Keep it going want to know all ins and outs as I have the opportunity to do the same swap. I have TB42e at the moment. Would love to use current inlet and exhaust. Exhaust is easy to change but how about all that wiring. It kills me every time.
