Had a similar problem in the last few weeks and despite filling my fan clutch with new silicon fluid the fan clutch was not working properly.

there are two holes on the dizzy, one on bottom and one near the adjustment bracket on side.

i have fitted breathers to both holes up to the firewall as mine use to drop cylinders but ever since (touch wood) the donk has survived the water.

new leads and dizzy cap (and gasket) will also help!

IMO you will be best going for original toyota spec leads, on other cars when I have tried so called performance leads they have never been as good as OE.

I paid about $250 for a set of leads from Toyota

You can get NGK Iridium plugs for the 1FZ FE at about $14 each, I got some at the weekend but ...

if motor in great condition why not just swap the diff gears to get back the original performance on the 35's, then look at modding the engine if you want.
