Was thinking of putting bigger tyres than my 33's on my 6" lifted rig, but I really couldn't be bothered chopping the gaurds. I'm on the tools for a living, and the last thing I want to do in my own time is get on the ...

I enquired once at an engine shop about my old rb30 powered patrol, and the guy advised me to have my own cam reground, as they were a bit hard to come by for the rb30's. Don't know how true that is though considering how many modified Skylines and VL commodores are getting around.

pushrods would generally be noisy if they are bent, so maybe pull them out and have a look. Another way to adjust your tappets (although it can be a pain in the bum) is to pull the rocker cover off, loosen all the locknuts and start the engine. Adjust the tappets until the noise stops and then lock ...

Check points and condensor. Maybe overfuelling or running rich also. I'd put it on a 4 gas anylizer to check it properly. I've got a 2.5" system on mine also, and it runs sweet. Only differance is, I've got an electronic dizzy.

electronic igniton and extractors are excellent for LPG. Snorkel will do nothing for economy or performance and may cause running problems with the forced air induction and the diaphram in the gas convertor. It should however be able to be rectified by a gas expert.

Don't think it's a cracked head i did a pressure test on it, and idles fine, normally a cracked head would run like crap, might be onto something with the thermostat

It won't necassarily run like crap depending on where the head is cracked. TB42 cylinder heads have little welsh plugs in the head ...

Bump Stops

I've done a quick search around the forum, but couldn't find what I was looking for. I've got a gq with 6" lift and 33" tyres. As they are starting to wear a little low I was thinking of getting 35''s as I was told this is the largest I can fit without modifing the gaurds. From what I understand ...

Lift the rear seat on any old VW beetle and I don't think you'll find too many sealed batteries. Probably explains why they keep catching fire and burning to the ground.

Mate my GQ does it sometimes. Ive found it to be a lack of vacuum in the clutch vacuum booster. Mine does it when ive been on full throttle or close to it. I've spoken to a gearbox rebuilder about this as a lot of smaller front wheel drive vehicles have had atf in their manual transmissions when I've drained them. Maybe worn camshaft lobes, maybe a slightly bent pushrod. Worst case scenario, it could possibly be the crankshaft bearings, and although I can't really describe the noise, it usually does'nt sound like tappet noise.

Engines either have adjustable tappets or hydraulic lifters...not both. As the td42 has tappets and you reckon the noise is coming from the bottom of the block, at a guess I would say (and I hate being the bearer of bad news) you have bottom end problems. If left unattended you may find one of the ...

I know nothing about those engines, but if it's a six cylinder the firing order will be 1,5,3,6,2,4. There are many reasons it could be running rough. Have you checked the igniton points and gap, the condenser, the timing, and have you got any disconected vacuum lines or air leaks around the ...

Not normally, but I'd still pay a few extra dollars for a quality oil filter such as genuine, Ryco or Valvoline over the cheaper Taiwanese imports. I see it as a cheap insurance policy for your engine. :)

Spark plugs come pre gapped these days, but 1.0mm is a good gap for an lpg system. Timing sounds about right too. Does it flat spot on petrol or gas? With the backfiring, it does sound like it may have an ignition problem. Start with checking the lead resistance (no more than 12K ohm on each lead ...

If you've got access to a radiator pressure tester, pressure test your cooling system and see if the pressure goes down over a few minutes. Also if it's leaking coolant into the oil, 9 times out of 10 it'll be because of a cracked head (if it's a tb42 motor). With engine at operating temperature and ...
