Personally I wouldn't tubo a 1hz, however my experience with aftermarket turbo toyotas is that they produce good power and torque reliably in short bursts but don't like sustained load e.g. towing or long hills. I have found that the exhaust temp gets high as does the coolant temp under these circum...

Just throwing it out there, but it isn't that 5 cylinder toyota diesel that was based on the 1hz? I thought they were only in overseas cruiser models but I think they looked like the 1hz. About 3.5 litres in capacity.

Centre Diff Lock 80 Series

G'Day, I have bought a 97 80 series cruiser (full time 4wd) and I am having a drama with centre diff lock engagement. It is an ABS model, so it has the viscous centre with the centre lock only activating in low range. From what I can gather when L4 is selected the ABS light will come on and the 4wd ...

Thanks for the assistance. I had written toyota off based on the other threads on this subject, but I called them today and they do sell the bushes but only with the arm or rod. They do this in pieces though, so I ordered the LHS one that hooks up to the motor for $77 which isn't too bad. Thanks aga...

Wiper arm bushes 60 series

G'Day, Just wondering if anyone knows where I can get new plastic bushes for the wiper arm on a 60 series landcruiser (where it fits onto the wiper motor). I have searched here and there are a couple of good posts about the problem, which is how I worked out what I need, but it doesn't say who might...

Interesting, I guess that is why the factory ones are so expensive. Those studs that the fan bolt to, are they replaceable at all? The reason I ask is that I just snapped one of those when putting the fan back on. It is a factory clutch but out of a 60 series. I don't know why I bother doing stuff m...

I had this problem when reconnecting the wiring to a 3f yonks ago. You have to get the resistor wiring right, then resistor to coil right, multimeter helps. Sorry, not much help but there are only so many combos.

Thanks heaps for that BEE JAY, great info. Yes it is the superglow model. Some of what you have written is contrary to other stuff I have found but yours makes more sense. I have read suggestions that you can just tap into the no.1 relay and provide the glow from that but it may be smoking due to th...

Hello again. I understand the system and have a factory manual, no problems there. Definitely no power to the main relay but the secondary relay does get power from the timer. For some reason the second relay works fine but no power actually gets to the rail (don't know why yet). I believe that this...

That's about right for towing economy and is really not much more than some of the newer vehicles when towing. I get 12-12.5L/100k on the highway not towing at 90-100km/h (Auto 2H Turbo). The tank is 90L.

Glow Plug Timer 2H

G'Day, I have an issue with glow plugs not working on 2h hj60. There is no power to the resistor. Resistor is fine, relays fine. Following the toyota manual I believe the problem is with the timer - there is no current to terminal 1 with ignition on but there is current between terminals 3 and 12. A...

One other thing, I wouldn't stress too much as a year is not that long. Change oil and drain fuel. Visual inspection of belts and hoses - it may have flat battery but otherwise should just start. Let it warm up and check for leaks/problems - it should not have any issues with the 2hr drive.

Will be the 12ht if it is the factory turbo. I bought a mint condition 60 series and still spent 3-4k on replacing belts, hoses, waterpump and had everything serviced. Probably not necessary but now I know where everything is at. Will go for another 20 years if look after. Good luck.

Diesel service shops usually sell decent sized catch cans, that is where I got one from. The supercheap style cans are a bit small for a big diesel IMO.

The earlier ones came out with the F petrol motor which was a 3.6L or something. Either that one has had a conversion or the dude is confused with the 2F 4.2 petrol. They are shocking for rust. Now I have never seen one cut into a single cab or similar, that could be quite unique.

12ht. Will bolt in, exhaust is on the same side, direct injection, factory turbo set up, very reliable, goes hard. The downside is that they are hard to get and vey expensive.

Just a quick question in relation the reply by Dumbdunce, is every toyota 6 cylinder diesel prone to big end bearing failure and should they be replace routinely on every model (including 2H?)

Exhaust place will fit the probe no worries, the gauges are fairly easy to wire up yourself, or get a sparky I guess.

There are replacement gases available, LPG and similar. Can't recall the name of the mob that produce gas replacement, but someone will. Seen it on a thread here recently. Doesn't require retrofit.

If you are prepared to go to Canberra there is also Queanbeyan Diesel Service. Recently had injectors, timing etc done by them and happy with the job, customer service was excellent. I think Mick is the bloke running the show and was very helpful.
