Got a mate with a 2000 hungie and he runs a 4" spring lift and 315's on the factory alloys. Tires just fit.. they scrub the chassis rail on the rear but even the stockers do that.

A well designed 6" coil will bind only 35mm longer than an off-the-shelf 4" coil. Yet they can drop at least a further 100mm.

However, I agree that 4" coils will be less complicated and more stable. Is the extra travel worth the extra hassle?

If you run 4" total or less you are more likely ...

A little bit of positive camber on the front wheels is good.

Wendle, did you fit MQ swivel hubs to your GQ housing or have you just swaped-and-spun your GQ hubs around?

I'm interested to hear how yours drives. In particular, how it corners at speed, and how your front tyres wear. I was thinking about doing this mod after talking with Pete, but got scared ...

spot on Bogged.

I picked up some GTiR seats then fab'd 2 brackets to level and raise the rails. Outer brackets are same as factory, 100x30 channel, and inner brackets are 60x60x30 z-fold which moves the seat 30mm inwards as the GTiR seats rails are 16" and the originals are only 15". Inserted the ...

A while back NickW told me he found that you can use a Holden Camira solenoid as a replacement.

Are they hard to source parts such as actuators and stuff if they let go.

All parts are available as geniune spares from Nissan. The solenoid is the only thing that is likely to ever give problems and its worth $180 new. However, there is a similar solenoid that was used in the Camira that does ...

The factory locker is a good unit. It uses a solenoid to direct vacuum to opposite sides of the actuator mounted to the rear diff. Mechanically the actuator and locking mechanism is strong and reliable. The only problems you are likely to experience are related to vaccum supply. The hoses can perish ...

If you plan on fitting a 5-link at an time down the track.. then think twice about fitting Dobinsons springs. The front springs are 2 stiff and too short. I tried 2 sets of their softest, and am currently onto my 2nd set of custom springs that are much better.

Also, check who makes Dobinsons ...

Robbo, 7 deg is excessive for a 5" lift. The general rule of thumb is 1deg or castor for every inch of lift, however this is only a guideline. Excessive castor will increase the occurance of castor slap, and exacerbate any shimmy problems.

If your bushes are flogged as you say, then get them ...

Ture, king pin effectiveness is altered when increasing wheel offset, but with 35" tyres you would normally only run 8" rims with a 20-22 neg offset. This won't make a huge difference. As Bazzle said, go to someone that can actually balance tyres of that size.

Check that your radiator fan is not contacting the shroud. There will be evidence that the fan blades are shortening. The engine mounts can wear and the engine will torque over in low range on steep climbs. If so, replace the faulty engine mount.

Also pull your hubs out and service them. Should ...

With the body lift you will be able to get away without trimming the qtr panels but you will still need to remove your mudflaps and trim your flares ...

Its cheaper and easier to fit a lift over 4" to a LWB. The LWB is more stable going up and down steep hills. It has heaps of room. It seems easier to find a LWB in diesel than a Shorty in diesel. Try and get the diesel, the petrols guzzle the gas and suffer at low revs. The diesels cost more but ...
