TD4.2 to Chev/GMC Auto Box

A friend of mine is considering swapping in a TD4.2 to his Cruiser. It already has a Chev/GM sm420 transmission. Does anyone know if anyone makes an adapter for a swap with a Chev/GM transmission (sm420/sm465/nv4500)? Pics/build? I did not see anything on Mark's Adapters.

Thanks Clanky! That is exactly the type of number I was looking for. An NTN number will be easy to cross ref, even if they don't have that NTN bearing. If you ever end up in the Vancouver BC area, let me know, cause I owe you a pint. Cheers,

TD4.2 Idler Pully Bearing part #

I was wondering if anyone had a non-Nissan part number for the idler pully bearing. They are making noise on both of our Y60s right now. It is a 3 week wait to get anything in from Nissan Canada. Was hoping that I could cross reference a part number at the local bearing shop or perhaps the bearing ...

Nope. Mods here wouldn't put up with it for one thing. I don't plan on rubbing it in any of their faces'. Not worth it. Some people are just way too sensitive. One day - over a beer - I might ask Radd what he does differently than me to account for 3.5 hrs. In this day an age, I don't think a shop ...

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being unreasonable thinking that it should be less than 3.5 hrs on the book. I can do mine ...

Front Bearings - Book Time / Actual Time

I've a question for the mechanics or others here who might know what is the accepted book time in Australia to repack the front bearings on a GQ/GU? And also, what is the actual time shops charge for a front bearing repacking? I've heard a claim here in Canada that the book time is 3.5 hours. I have ...

You are talking primer here not lift pump. Get an electric lift lift pump and mount it just after the tank. Buddies have them and it makes bleeding a breeze and also helps the internal lift pump on your IP. Also, starting a rotary IP dry is a bad idea. Just because they do it on some pumps doesn't ...

I 've seen quite afew posts on this. There is a seal at the back of the master that leaks. If I remember right, it is a simple job. Remove your master from the booster without detaching the brake lines. Pop the rear seal out of the master and insert another one. If it has leaked into the booster ...

Selectable Auto hub repair

Hoping someone here can answer a couple questions for me. I pulled the hub off my other Safari (Y60) to slap some paint on it and found that in the clutch mechanism that what I think is a spacer ring had snapped. At least it appears to function as a spacer. http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh33 ...

Depending on hyow long they have been on the hub and how much salt they have seen, it can be a pita to get them off the hub. I had to press mine off with 1500 lbs pressure, some light taping and a lot of WD40. Before putting new ones on the hub, clean off all the scale. I also paint my hub with ...

I didn't do the castor correction after doing the OME 2" lift. I did take it in to be checked out and was told my Safari didn't need castor correction. She handles as well at 100 k as at 130 k or 50 k.

Yes, simple things like wheel balance or a bent rim can give you the shakes. All of my shakes didn't go away until I put in new shocks when I did the lift. LF one was complete gone and I figure it was what was causing the shakes.

OME Lift Question

I finally found a local shop that will bring in an OME lift to Canada. I am going with the 2" lift. It needs to take the weight of winch and bar in the front and the weight of a family (5-7pas) or my gear loaded truck in the rear plus ocassional trailering. The numbers the guy at the shop came up ...

Maybe you just knocked off a tire weight and you wheel is out of balance. On mine it was this and a slight bend I put on a steel LC rim which resulted in the 80 km/hr shakes. That rim now has a load of lead on it to put it in balance until I clean up another spare rim and paint it. However, my ...

After your new info about starting, it sounds exactly like an air leak. A likely spot is the filter assembly but it could be anywhere. Look for a diesel leak - often just a damp spot. Sometimes there is no apparent diesel leak. I think it is easier changing out all the hose than just looking for a ...
