Re: GU oil in Transfer

It depends which free wheeling hubs you have. If you have the manual ones, use gear oil but if they are the auto ones, use ATF. If you put gear oil in when you have the auto hubs, the extra drag when it's cold can cause the front driveshaft to turn when the transfer is in 2WD & lock the hubs.

I've had one of these I got off Ebay about 2 1/2 years ago, for about $100. Never had a problem, even pumping up 6 265/75 R16s from 20 -40 PSI. A mate bought the latest ARB one & it lasted 1 1/2 tyres before it sh!t itself. When he took it back they said the motoer was burnt out & replaced it. A ...

If you have a snorkle fitted, check where it bolts to the windscreen pillar, as I have heard of them leaking there. The water gets into the pillar & runs down into the passanger side footwell. You will need to pull the screws out & seal well with silicon.

O.K. Now that I have downloaded them, how do I look at them on my PC. Please excuse my ignorance, but I'm middle aged & when it comes to computers, technically challenged. :?: :?: :?: I obviously need to download some software, so can someone suggest which is the best & where I get it from. Thanks

I had a similar problem on a jackaroo years ago. It was fixed with a thing that was called, I think, a "Speedy Sleeve". It is a very thin stainless steel sleeve that is pressed onto the axle. It has a head to push it on with, that then breaks off after fitting. Try asking around bearing suppliers to ...

There is one major differance between the heads, GQ has screw adjusters for valve clearances, while the GU has bucket & shims. I don't know if this will effect interchangability (Gee thats a big word) or not.

I've had mine for over 5 years & it's now done over 130000ks, with no major problems. I change the oil & filter every 5000ks & take it to a mechanic every 12-18 months for once over. They can start to run hot when pushed hard when they have done around the 100000k mark, but the radiator just needs ...

My dad has been a diesel mechanic for over 50 years (70 next year & still won't retire) says not to warm up a motor by letting it sit at idle, as it is running colder for longer. He says its best to drive it gently to get it up to normal running temp' A.S.A.P. without flogging it.
