I would expect to see lots of messy crap in there water and oil if he's done any water crossing etc, i'd be inclined to do wheel bearings and even pull centre's if it's really messy.

I'd say rust would be the biggest thing to look out for on the FRP top model. Windscreen surround area, firewall etc maybe they have all been replaced with fibreglass surrounds by now? $8000 seems steep for an 89 it would have to be good to have a second look at! Ok i'm no expert but i would say it would take a lot to invert front shackles? Mine are vertical in the front maybe a couple of degrees more to the front, if they did invert then i would make some anti inverts or modify mine. Have'nt checked out the legal side of making your own or modifying but ...

The GME TX3220 is a pretty good budget option although the auto squelch can be annoying depends how much you use it i guess.
