Re: UTV Racing - a new 4x4 Sport?
Stuee, All along we have encouraged other brands of SXS's to be involved in this form of racing, however other than Polaris, the response from the others has been a bit poor. Can-am however are now very keen also to be involved and at this stage, based on a power to weight ratio comparison, we see ...

Re: ROUND 3 ARBXWC - MANILLA via TAMWORTH 15 - 17 October
Yes i'm a Tamworth local. It is one way you can go, you can also head out from Warwick to Inglewood and make your way south via Warialda, its not as hilly that way but the roads are not as good. If you were in any doubt about rivers, travel down the above route via the Tablelands, that way you can ...

Re: ROUND 3 ARBXWC - MANILLA via TAMWORTH 15 - 17 October
We haven't had anywhere near the rain down here that you guys have had in Brisbane. South of the border I cannot think of any rivers near flooding that might stop you heading south, especially if you travel Warwick-Glen Inness-Inverell-Bingara-Manilla. There is a little rain predicted here for Wed ...

Two different issues here. One problem I forsee with buggies or unregisteres 4x4s is how you regulate them and keep them even within classes, otherwise the onus is well and truely put on event organisers to heavily scrutineer to ensure parity of engineering and class rules. (Thus adding to the cost ...

Interest is very very good. Polaris are currently sponsoring a winch challenge event in Melbourne on the weekend of the 26th of June for both SXS's and 4x4 winch trucks. They have also launched a special purhcasing programme for their dealers to get them involved in a competition series. We have ...

Right guys on all accounts. The top of the range Polaris RZR S brand new is around $24,000. But thats almost race ready. Add winch, harnesses and maybe some roll cage work (yet to be determined) and you are ready to go. (the 2010 model actually comes standard with its cage ROPS approved for the same ...

UTV Racing - a new 4x4 Sport?
Recently at Rd 3 of the XWC at Tamworth last October, we previewed The Polaris RZR side by side 4x4. The object here was to see if this type of vehicle might be up to this style of competition and to gauge competitiors reaction to the idea. Well things have progressed and I now believe, thanks to ...

Sorry you can't make it Brad. Thanks for the well wishes.
Weather will be a bit cool down here this weekend too.
P.S. We might be quick through the trees but we will be a bit slow on the winching, but we will have a heap of fun even though we are not competing for places or points. Its just a trial.

Not sure how the rego rules operate in QLD. The registration here is a conditional type, probably similiar to what we might expect the new rules in NSW will be regarding our comp trucks. I know there is a very large group in QLD that were doing ride trips regularly up and down The Cape, Fraser etc ...

YES it is registered in NSW YES it almost complies with all the XWC rules and regs and this is just a one off. NO it will NOT be competing for outright points or places, we are running it to gauge opinion/reaction on maybe creating a whole new class of 4x4/ATV racing that is big in the U.S. Rudi and ...

Sorry Digsy but that sort of car could actually be built under Challenge Class CCDA rules. Under MMM's rules, yes it would be handicapped, but it would be seriously competitive none the less. (Even without a blower or charger, its all about power:weight) I think you may have missed the point perhaps ...

OK, heres some food for thought. What would you guys, as fellow competitors, think if someone turned up to the next winch challenge with a DAKAR type Off road 4x4 machine, weighing only 1850kg's, IFS all round, 600HP and one of Russells 3 motor winches (costing around $200,000+ by the way)? Sure ...

No I see what your saying Swaffie, you are right about the noise and sex appeal thing , I was more just speaking from a sponsors point of view. As per my first post, Class 7 and 8 are indeed cheque book racing, thats why there are more winch challenge vehicles competing around Oz then Class 7 and 8 ...

Swaffie, its certainly true in what you are saying. But its funny you should bring up the farmtruck because it presents a very interesting angle to the discussion. Over the years that low budget 45 series of Daves has appeared in more ARB 4x4 Action Newsletters and 4WD magazines then any of the high ...

Digsy, you are certainly right, we are all guilty of not presenting our trucks in the best of light. In years gone by, love or hate him, I would have to say Manni Kafantaris probably came the closest to achieving what you are saying. But keeping our trucks in top top condition between events is a ...

Digsy, you have some very valid ideas there, and ones that I know have been discussed by organisers and sponsors for many years. But if you look at it from a company/industry sponsorship point of view, our sport does not really offer alot of value for advertising dollars which would enable us to ...

I can sort of see where Dave is coming from here. Its really only a handicap points system, not a total ban. I remember back in the 80's when the Australian Safari had 200+ entries, and the Kempsey Macleay 1000 with similiar numbers with Colin Bond and Dick Johnson as guest competitors, it seemed ...
