Re: hydrolock - diagnose bent rod

All good I think. It was a little hard to measure as each time I picked up and re clamped the gauge onto the block I could of nudged the arms that set it in place. But I believe that they were all within about 0.1mm (4 thou) of each other. Head has been reconditioned is now back on/torqued up. Need ...

Re: hydrolock - diagnose bent rod

OK will report back when I use a dial gauge on the pistons this weekend when I get the head off. I assume the only reason it won't start now because the head gasket is buggered and there is not enough compression, regardless of bent rods.

hydrolock - diagnose bent rod

Hello all, I tried to start my car (HJ47 2H) after sitting for about 3 weeks through some brutal rain and somehow water got into the air box and into the air intake. It fired a couple of times (ran for less than a second) at first but then wouldn't start, rpm probably didn't get over 1000 ...

Re: hzj80 interior lights difflock aux tank not working help

I usually assume when lots of unrelated electical things go spastic that it is an ground problem. Check battery earth and earth on each problem circuit and if you can the resistance through ground. Or perhaps they all use the same fuse, so check the fuses with a multimeter, there are little holes on ...

Re: split rim offset 40 series / GU compatability

Ended up doing what I was trying to put off, taking them off one at a time sanding and painting the insides. Quite a process considering 2 coats of paint takes ~18 hours to properly dry. It's weird how some were quite rusty and some weren't at all, and some rims are almost impossible to get off.

split rim offset 40 series / GU compatability

So I have some new tyres to go on my hj47 troopy. Rather than put them on my old rusty split rims I was thinking of getting some nice new-ish GU Patrol 6 stud split rims (damn toyota 5 stud rims!! :bad-words: ). My 40 wheels have zero offset and 80mm backspacing and the GU wheels have approx 100mm ...

tie-rod end lifetime

How long do you guys get out of a set of tie-rod ends? I put new cheapo ebay ones on my HJ47 for a roadworthy a few years back. Would of only driven 50-70,000km since then. They are now pretty much shagged with atleast 5mm of play in the ball joints. I expected them to last longer than that. I will ...

Re: difference between 40 & later 70 PTO gear?

Thanks guys. I'm fairly confident it would be form an earlier 70 so probably not 79. I have a few PTO gears in the shed so I will have one even if I have to pull it apart. Thanks again.

Someone has a PTO winch for sale but from an unknown year 70. I am assuming it will fit in my HJ47 ? Did the bolt covers or internal gear ever change? Thanks.

Re: screaming gearbox .....

It is from somewhere after the output shaft of the gearbox (as noise increase with road speed) this could be centre bearing or anyting in the tcase. Unless you had a balance tube b/w gearbox and tcase I would have a guess that your transfer case has lost all oil and is hating on life.

Re: gearbox rebuild bearing removal

Thanks, I ended up removing all other bearings so input shaft was out and the lay shaft was clear. Put the circlip back on and belted the main shaft into the box with a copper hammer. This took alot of work and it seems all the force on the bearing was between the shaft and the bearing and not the ...

gearbox rebuild bearing removal

Hello all, I am attempting my first gearbox reconditioning and am a little having trouble getting the rear main shaft bearing out (also called centre bearing). All other bearings came out relatively easy. It's a four speed h41/h42.

I could probably slide hammer the $hit out of it to get it out, but ...

Re: Glow plugs aren't glowing

Check the contact where the strip connects to the main strip at the glow plug closest to firewall. I have found a little bit of corrosion here is enough to stop a good current. You can apply 12V to the main solenoid (the brass cylindrical one, not the black rectangular relay) to see if it switches ...

Hmmm, This has been with changing filters each time. I think I will drop the sump to have a look. I haven't been believing the oil pressure sender unit as I have had 2 fail before (on other cars). The oil pressure does build up to normal levels after starting a second time.

Either way these aren't ...

Not all of the Oil drains out, 2H

Last two times I've done an oil change on the HJ47 I've only got about 7L out of what should be approx 10L sump. Also oil is not simply low as I can only add 7L too.

Any ideas? I am not warming it up enough???....I doubt that as I've changed the oil on a 2H a bazillion times and always warmed it up ...

worth using a spring scale to get the pre-load correct on the wheel bearings and swivel hub bearings. When I first did it I left my wheel bearings too loose.

I'm pretty sure you don't need anything special apart from the big socket. It can be on pretty tight so might need a big breaker bar and you will need to wedge the engine still by removing the starter motor and wedging a spanner or similar in the teeth of the flywheel ...
