Just thought I'd reply - I found the issue in mine...short on wiring harness.

Re: Vitara Shunting/Missing
Excelent write up. Was there evidence of the short? chaffing of harness? In the vid of the silly scope were you reving the engine or was that just a high surging idle? Cheers. -Taz Well, I jiggled it under the inlet manifold and it seems to be fine. I can't see under there and dont want to take the ...

I have unlpugged the temp gauge and it's been working fine. The car has been working for 4 weeks straight now. It appears that it is a short with the temp guage and something else.

Re: Vitara Shunting/Missing
fault codes don't give out any errors.
Yes, I have cleaned the MAF.
Given that it moslty happens only if the Coolant sensor is plugged in, do you still think it is the MAF? If I unplug either the MAF or the TPS, the car still runs. If I unplug both MAF and TPS, it dies (as expected?)
Cheers

Vitara Shunting/Missing
Didn't have any replies in Auto electrical, thought I'd try here. Hi All, My car (Vitara G16b, EFI) started shunting while driving (not at idle) about 8 months ago. It only did it once, then it was fine for a few weeks. It got worse and worse, now does it almost all the time. It used to only happen ...

Time to start throwing parts at it...
Please keep us up to date if you try anything else, I will do the same
EDIT : I just realised the OP has a carby, I have and EFI

Re: vitara lift and tyres Q & A
Hey FWIW, I ran 15/30mm spacers + Strut top flip with 235/75 BFG ATs with no dramas. Now running 15/30 spacers + OME with 235/75 BFG ATs, no dramas, but I haven't done much with it. On a side note, the BFG ATs, are almost done after 70,000 kms, 95% of which is on road. My mates Surf with Coopers ATs ...

Re: Vitara Who Uses High Range On Beach?
i'd be running lower psi in the tyres, start at about 15 and go down to 10. drop it to 7 or 8 if you get bogged. what revs are you changing gears at? you might be dropping below the sweet spot for the engine In LR, I'd be guesing around 4500 when I am working it a bit harder, normally probalbly ...

Re: Vitara Who Uses High Range On Beach?
you cant get diff gears for the vitara, calmini made a 4.8 set ages ago but have stopped. im having the same problem with my gearing, once you get ur gears it will be to slow. so u will have to us high and just drop your pressures and keep ur revs up. Mitch That's what I figured would happen. I'll ...

Re: Vitara Who Uses High Range On Beach?
Again, that is the whole point of this thread. like I said above So sierra's seem to go ok in HR... Sounds like I might need to do transfer gears and hope it's not too slow on the beach. ATM I use low range. That is fine. But if I put reduction gears in, it will be slow as all hell on the beach and ...

Re: Vitara Who Uses High Range On Beach?
Aftermarket transfer gears wont get you anywhere more in a vit on a beach. High range is not reduced like sierra's. You will still be in lowrange. Diff gears will reduce your overall gearing. Yeah, I realise transfer gears won't help on the beach...I am assuming they will make it worse (slow it ...

Thanks for the info on the diff. I'll look into that as an option as well. I assume you have to match the front as well?

Do you have reduction gears? What are they? How do you find them on the beach in Low range? I am usually up in 4th in Low range as is.. with reduction gears....atari4x4 wrote:never... unless the beach is like a freeway.

Re: Vitara Who Uses High Range On Beach?
1st question should of been, What pressures are you running? i run 12psi in a sierra with a g16b, Yes the vit is heavier, but alot of people with sierra's run alot lower than me. High range, 2wd also if i want to play. I start at 15, lowest I have been is 12. Mostly cause the tyres are too big for ...

Re: Vitara Who Uses High Range On Beach?
You'll find that most 4wds are like that. They all have fairly pitiful power to weight ratios. As soon as you hit a dry loose part of sand it's back to low range. What I'm thinking looking at your post is 1 are the 235 tyres standard size or oversized? if they are over then diff gears would be a ...

Vitara Who Uses High Range On Beach?
Hi Guys, When on the beach, I can't use high range, it just doesn't have the power. Not even on the flat areas on the beach, as soon as the wheels start to dig just a little, High Range takes it nowhere. What is everyone elses experience? I have a 94 LWB g16b Vitara. The engine is in excelent ...
