Bighorns are great tyres. For a mix of mud and sand here in WA they go really well. I run 33's on my GQ and have no issues running them at 10 pounds in mud and sand. They hold their bead well when hooning in the dunes and it's rare I get sand/mud in the bead unlike other tyres I've run. They bag ...

2F won't idle?

After a run out yesterday my 40 no longer idles? As soon as you take your foot off the gas it stalls. If you give it a bit of gas all is well and it drives no problem as long as you don't put the clutch in with no gas. A bit of hand throttle means it can be driven. I did some research which led me ...

start looking for a replacement 2F Good advice me thinks. I'm sure the motor will soldier on until I can find a replacement that's a bit more perky. Maybe it's time for a chev :) Did the valve clearances this avo as suggested (thanks for the tip). I'll retest it next weekend and see if the results ...

Need help with compression test results

The 1984 2F in my FJ40 is starting feeling a bit tired and gutless. Anyhow I got myself one of those compression test guages and did a test. I've done some searching but I'm having trouble figuring out what the results mean and what I should do next. Compared to other peoples results they seem a bit ...

depends what you use the truck for too. if its a dayly driver it mab be worth fixing but if it was a play toy.......... who cares you will only bend it again if you straighten it It's purely a play toy, maybe does 5000ks a year. The front diff would be lucky to see 1000ks a year. Thanks for all ...

How did he tell it was bent?? On an older truck apparently it's usual to check the alignment of the housing, I've read they use lights & lenses to ckeck the alignment similar to wheel alignment. Aparrently there was a small amount of diff oil in one of the CV joints. I've done quite a bit of ...

bent axle housing (3mm), should it be straigtened?

Does anyone know what's an accepatble bend in an axle housing? My FJ40 is currently having F & R ARB Lockers put in. On Friday I got a call from a diff center (apparently ARB sub contract the fitting of their lockers, not something they tell you when you book it in) anyhow they're saying I need to ...

na, didnt tell me nothing about a new compressor Not surprised, ARB staff have told me it's 72l/min rated at 30 psi which is over double the speed of the current one. I've also been told (not by ARB) that it's better quality and uses the same motor as the new bushrangers. It's coming out very soon ...

Great argument but it doesn't answer either of my questions, i.e. when the new ARB compressor will hit the shelves and whether it will be included in the locker deal? :finger:

New 72l/min ARB compressor/Air locker promo

I've just ordered F & R lockers for my 40. ARB has a special on in March where if you buy one air locker you get the air actuator free and if you buy two lockers you get the compressor that does your tyres free (the current one is something like 29lt/min). Someone at ARB has told me that their new ...

Yellowpages search for metal fabrication shops/ sheetmetal joints. Ring around and ask. Tried the yellow pages gig for ages but no takers. With all the mining there are hundreds of fabricators but I guess there's too much money doing other stuff at the moment. I don't remember asking avon ...

Does anyone in Perth fabricate roll cages?

Hi All, I'm trying to find someone in Perth to fabricate a roll cage for my FJ40. It's proving harder than I thought as most people only make the aluminium roll bars which are for show more than protection. A guy at Alloy Performance Racing in Osbourne Park has said he can do it but from the ...

If I do the body lift or as Matt suggests mod the rig to run 35's with no lift what kind of improvement in articulation might I expect with the increased tyre size & weight ? the dude at the shop reckons it will improve things heaps. Also happy to hear about the pros and cons of running 35's on a 40 ...

Hi Matt, It's funny that you should reply as I was looking at your rig in September's Australian 4wd last night and thinking to myself that from the photo it doesn't look like you have any lift and yet your running the exact tyre size I would like. My preference would be no lift as I want the ...

Not too fussed about comfort. Want as much flex as poss to keep the wheels on the ground as I'm currently running open diffs. Like to play on rocks/trees and the missus will complain if I put it on it's side so keeping the COG low is a priority. I also put a leaf sprung landy on it's side a few ...

FJ40 body lift vs suspension lift

Hi All, I'm after some advice on what type of lift I should put in my 84 FJ40. It's currently running 32 x 11.5 but I'm after a little more clearance for off road. It's not a daily driver, it's just for messing about in the mud/sand on a weekend. I'm running a stock 2f on dual fuel, I usually run on ...
