Re: RIP My 1992 J-Top

Sometimes a failing engine will seize from heat caused by lack of lubrication. The parts grow in dimension until there is no clearance available for rotation. This often happens when pistons seize - the engine won't restart, but after it cools down, there is enough clearance for it to rotate and ...

I haven't looked at my transmission pan in a while - you might have to remove the mount and jack the transmission from the rear to gain clearance.

It's a good habit to drain fluids after a fresh startup to flush engine crud that might have been loosened and/or missed during the rebuild.

The OE bolts on my '89 were M12 x 50mm 10T. I replaced them with M12 1.25 x 60mm in order to accomodate extra shims and the longer nylock nuts.

I replaced all of mine with grade 10.9 and nylock nuts. If you can find the fine thread, be sure to use them. I have a bag of extras, but shipping from the States might be a bit rich. Let me know if you need it that badly.

they say the stock cams are 182, lift 0.394. The RPW stage 1 cams are 258 with 0.360 lift.

Their information is wrong. Here are the Gen1 3.0L cam specs:

Intake close = 59°ABDC

Exhaust open = 59°BBDC
Exhaust close = 19°ATDC

My Gen1 SWB 3.0L A/T with a fresh engine returns 20mpg or ~12L/1100km. In order to get that level of mileage performance, it's necessary to keep speed at 65mph or 105km/hr since the Gen1 has the aerodynamics of a refrigerator.

If you have an early transmission, there may be a slight mileage benefit ...

If you s/c your motor, I would have to say you need to rebuild the engine, with lower compression pistons. 8 or 8.25:1 max.

That depends on the amount of boost, cam choice and what pistons are used. I'm running 7psi boost with the Diamante cams and forged Wiseco pistons. My static CR is 9.05:1 ...

Yes, sorry - I have a 3.0L 12v and think the world revolves around that engine.

If you have a 24v engine, they should fit.... at least the ports match - can't say about the length and turn. If you have CAPS, you could check for a cross-reference.

Diamante Station Wagon 3.0L Engine Specs Needed

Would anyone have the engine specs for the Mitsu/Australian-built station wagon that was sold in the US between '92 and '95? It was called a Diamante here - not sure what it was called at home in Oz.

Thanks for the suggestion. The original crankshaft pulley certainly did create a problem, but some of the problem was eliminated via a factory TSB with a new crankshaft pulley bolt and a revised torque value. Still, I don't blame him for being concerned, since the dished pulley design puts a lot of ...

If possible, identify the source of the noise and filter that component's output. If I couldn't identify the source, I would first try a noise filter on the power leads to the radio. If that didn't work, I'd try an alternator filter next. A marine supply may be your best source, if you're near the ...

"Better" is in the mind of the owner.

I didn't think so if a rising rate regulator (FMU) was used. That lets you use the OE MAF and ECU, but I can't say for certain it would have been ok even if the fuel rail issue was corrected. The OE ECU ignition map on '89 US models runs from a low of 15 ...
