Thanks for the help guys. Im not sure of the condition of the head, ill have to check with him. I dont think he wants to muck around too much so if he can just find a motor to drop in i think hell go with that. When i find out about the condition of the head ill post it up.

Ask around some japanese import wreckers about the small toyota superchargers they can get. I think they came standard on 2.0 and 2.5 litre motors, if geared correctly they will work fine on the 2.8 and the beauty of them is they have an electronic clutch much the same as your air-con compressor so ...

I think if your fork isnt lining up with the pin on the slave cylinder the only thing to do is take the box off again and put the fork back in place again, there is no other way around it and from what you describe this is exactly what the problem is.

Yes you could be right, the other thing could be the little clip that sits in the back of the fork that helps hold it in position, if this isnt on correctly it could come off. Id check both things but the slave sounds like a good bet and easy to check also.
