Hopefully it blows up on him soon, I don't want my family driving around on the roads with farkwits doing 180 kmh in a fully loaded fourby, or any other car for that matter....

If you want to do it properly you need to drop the pan and replace the filter. You should also being doing a complete fluid flush to get all the old burnt fluid out of the torque converter, transmission cooler etc. I would allow between 10-15 litres of fluid to give it a really good flush out. Make ...

Press in press out may, piece of cake. DO NOT use any lubricant to press metal shelled bushes in, they are an interference fit.

was expecting that the cams would have been where it failed. is now siezed. though was running when stopped. does excessive pressure make the oil light come on? i thought it was only low pressure? Plan was to rip the cams off and see how it all looks, expecting to see damaged/hot cam seats - if ...

Pull the rocker cover off and have a look. It may have blocked an oil gallery to the head, run dry and seized a cam. I have found those Hyundai motors need regular oil changes (every 5000-7500km) with a good quality oil otherwise they just sludge up.

Re: picture of my toughdog shock which let go
Yeah the earlier ones had a smaller shaft which was upgraded. I still broke the newer ones. The company I work for doesn't use them any more. They tried a set of dobbinsons shocks and they lasted 2 weeks before they lost resistance. I think it has lovells fitted now and have probably 20000kms on ...

You want about 1mm total toe in. If the diff is located on the rear springs properly and it's still not straight, one of your chassis rails might be back.

Sounds deadly. Who made the tank? I would be concerned about the quality of it if it has no breather, what happens on a hot day when pressure builds up in the tank due to fuel vapour?

I agree, I don't think I would fit one to my own vehicle as I can't see how they can safely increase fuel supply without any egt monitoring.KiwiBacon wrote:I'm surprised we don't see more melted pistons with aftermarket diesel chips and tuning boxes.

Re: 1KD-FTV cracked piston?
Nah never tuned on the dyno. It has had injector problems and it took ages to get Toyota to agree to put another set of injectors in it, so I'm wondering if the constant diesel knock before the injectors were replaced would have contributed to its early demise? I would be jumping on that quick ...

If you get one make sure you take the sump off and change the big end bearings, originally these engines used to spin big end bearings and stuff the crank.... Cheap insurance to change them. Great engines though! had a mate who was a service manager at toyota when these things came out (he left the ...

Yes it has Steinbauer and Beaudesert exhaust. The Steinbauer is just on the base setting. It gave up the ghost fully loaded towing a trailer with 2 quads in on the way to Bourke...it was an expensive tilt tray ride back home.

I have a 07 Hilux here that looks like it has cracked number 2 piston (not confirmed 100%, head isn't off yet). Has anyone seen this before on the 1KD-FTV motor?

Most people on here have a fair bit of mechanical aptitude and know how to flush a cooling system, for those that don't, read on. Drain coolant - Remove radiator cap from cold engine. If there's no tap on your radiator, pull the bottom hose off and allow to drain. when empty, replace hose/shut tap ...

You need a wheel alignment to check everything out. As well as negative caster, too much toe-out will make the steering very twitchy and wander around a lot.

I had a test drive of a new XL Ranger today in the 6 speed manual. Pretty impressive, they have mountains of torque and will accelerate easily up a steep hill in fifth from 60 kmh. Also tested out the low range up a steep embankment, you can be in 2nd low and it will just idle up without touching ...

What about Ferodo? Don't buy Ferodo in anything other than their "Thermo Quiet" range unless you like squeeling brakes. Their TQ pads are up there near the Bendix CT pads in price though. YMMV. Thermo Quiets are about the same price as Bendix GCTs if I recall correctly. Ferodo make some of the best ...
