Re: GQ petrol to diesel conversion (wiring help!!)

I would get the diesel loom and save yourself some trouble. There is the potential to spend a lot of time splicing in wiring, finding correct plugs and connectors for various things. Have you priced a diesel loom from a wrecker? I would be interested to hear how much In answer to your questions ...

Thanks a lot for that bit of info. I also had to replace the clutch slave 2 years ago to pass rego as it was leaking slightly - however that was less than 10,000kms ago.

TD42 - DTS turbo dump pipe clearance issues

Hi guys 1990 GQ patrol TD42 i have had a DTS turbo and DTS full 3 inch exhaust inc dump pipe fitted for 3 years. I have procrastinated over this issue for 3 years; The dump pipe seems to have very minimal clearance with the clutch slave cylinder bracket/heat shield. The manifold and dump pipe bolts ...

hmmm. don't know what is going on there. the scales i used were certified and were checked using our body weights. Obviously you had a few more bits strapped to it when it went on the scales, but not enough for another 100 odd kilos. either way the TD 42 falls into the "very heavy" category given ...

the compressor, pipes, and that stuff is close enough to be the same. i have a TD42 where a TB42 used to live, and the full aircon system was retained in the vehicle without depressurising it. Sorry but can't remember if the brackets to hold the compressor to the engine were the same. might have had ...

My mate bought the TD42 kit from 4wd systems about 2 or 3 years ago. it was the denco kit - and it was freighted from denco in wagga direct, and with denco stickers on it. You might want to check to see if this is still the case, as the only difference in buying that kit from either denco or 4wd ...

Spannercrab - is that cooler the one they market as the 350hp, or the 600hp? Is this mod supposed to flow more air than the standard GQ filter set up, with or without the pre-cleaner? i have a TD42 with DTS turbo kit, so am interested in benefits.

I would suggest that "Cooma Diesel" is one of those two places that could rebuild the EFI pump. Give them a ring (at their Fyshwick address - freecall 1800 637 322), they have always been very helpful and should be able to fill you in on what is going on.

If i can take one point you made bogged - it will be used for outback travel - then i can't see why you would want to go past the stock engine (TD42) with a turbo. Tried and tested.

Gearbox in 78/79 series diesels

Hi i am trying to find out which gearbox is to be found in the latest 78/79 diesel cruisers. we have had recurring problems with the weak box found behind the 1hz (R151f?). the stronger box behind the factory turbo diesel has been fine (H150f?) I thought i heard a rumour not long ago that toyota ...

Great to see someoone having a go at a Twin set up. The cummins 5.9 seems to be a common TT canditate in Nth America with ~50psi. About time someone tried the same treatment on the Jap diesels over here.... so nice one Dzltec.
I look forward to seeing how things progress.
