Newbie needing help
Hi I am very new to this game. I would like to buy a cheap 4wd that I can use mainly to access fishing spots which are generally over rocky outcrops/hills with the occassional mud flats. May use it also to drive to work approx. 30 mins each day round trip. I am living in the NW of WA. I would like ...

Compressors
G'day guys,
Can anyone enlighten me what type of compressor I should buy for my Prado. Just need it after letting down tyres etc. for beach runs. I have heard there are cheap and nasty ones that I want to avoid. Has anyone got one who give it a great review? What make etc.?

Roof Racks
G'day all, Just bought my car a 2004 Prado 4.0L petrol. Now looking for some roof racks. Looking for the basic sporting type (not sure what they are called) but just the standard two rails (curved) that suit the Prado. I only really need to be able to attach/secure a fishing rod holder too them ...

Third Row seats.
2004+ 3.2 DID Auto GLS+ models - The third row seats. Is there much room left once the seat is up? I have 3 anklebiters with the young ones in the second row with car seats and the older one (9yrs) who wants to sit in the third row. Everyone says that yeah its great because you can fold the seat ...

Can anyone tell me about the Pilbara model of a Prado. Are they any good? Is it the standard GX model? What is the difference between the Pilbara and the GXL? I am looking at the following: 05 Pilbara 47K on the clock He wants $43000 for it. Quite a few kms but he says he has done just two trips ...

Some great points there....cheers I do like the 4.0 Prado but a bit worried about fuel efficiency. It surely cannot be that bad, especially if I do more onroad than offroad. Like the Paj, but I have heard the engine is quite noisy. Is this true? Also if you leave the third row seat in, how much room ...

03/04 Paj 3.2DID, 03/04 3.0TD Prado or 4.0 Prado ??
It's down to three.. Which one do I go for? I cannot make up my mind. I have Mrs & 3 anklebiters. Two that need baby seats. I will eventually tow a small boat/dinghy. I will be going on several longish road trips. I will also do beach runs and light dirt 4wd tracks. Nothing too full on. Also Mrs ...

Cheers for reply..yeah leaning towards diesel. However the 3.0TD is a little more expensive. Say $42K for 03/04 model where as the 4L is probably closer to $38K. As for kms..I tend to look at around a average of 20 000kms per year. Would that be correct with the 03/04 Prados? Say a 03 model should ...

Choosing the right car to suit
G'day all, Just a quick question. If buying a 2003/2004 model Prado. Would I be correct in saying you are better off buying a 3L TD if you do most of your driving offroad in the harsher 4wd tracks or if you mainly drive on road with the ocassional beach run & light dirt tracks you should choose the ...

In looking at it, yes 3l TD looks better than the petrol 4.0. I'm not going to be doing the real hard yards offroad. So I guess the petrol would be better suited to me. I will be probably be doing more beach runs, boat towing etc. rather than full on offroad tracks. However after viewing the Toyota ...

So for power it maybe worth sacrificing a little economy and going for the 4L Petrol which I believe has alot more guts even though I am in a country environment.

What can ya get for ya $?
My budget is probably maxed out at $35K so I guess I will struggle with trying to get anything beyond late 03. May even find it hard to get a 3.0TD. What do you reckon? Would like to but obviously cannot afford the newer models.
Are the late 03 (newer shape) & 04 3.0TD models okay?

Newies are pretty pricey
Are were talking the latest models here? Is there much difference in say a 2003 or 2004 model to the latest models 2006/07? Other than say about $12-15K. The shape I am told changed in the late 03 models and has stayed the same size/shape etc. since.

Yeah cheers for that. I keep changing my mind. I would like the power and efficiency but also the room. Unfortunately though the only beast that fits that bill is the 4.2TD Landcruiser but I simply cannot afford to spend that much. So I guess I am in between and a little confused. The Prado has a ...

Standard 100 series
Are they really that gutless? Or are they just gutless/slow compared to the turbos etc. I need a big car and I am told the 100 series is the biggest (width) wise out of all the models. However I cannot afford the 4.2TD. I only really want to spend around $20Kish. I will generally only be using it in ...

Thanks for the replies.
I have heard that you are okay with the post 95 models. There has only been a few isolated cases with the hdft having big end bearing problems.
What sort of Kms are ya generally looking at for a say 97/98 hdft factory turbo? I am guessing anything over 300 to leave alone.

Aftermarket Turbo
Can anyone please tell if it is worth buying a 1998 std 4.2L diesel 100 series (cheaper) and installing an aftermarket Turbo & intercooler to it for greater power & efficiency or is it too much of a risk. Should I save up and by the factory 4.2L TD. I am looking for the power and efficiency of a 4 ...
