GQ petrol engine into MQ

The swap is not listed in the MQ Bible, so I'm wondering what the probs are in swapping a GQ 4.2 petrol TB42 into a 82 MQ with the P40.

It seems like a logical swap, but since no one seems to do it there's got to be good reason! Where's the catch?

I owned a 99 petrol brand new to about 6 months ago when I sold it on - I was very happy with its capability off-road. It's lightweight and the LO gearing is excellent. I went everywhere, up dry loose shale mountain tracks and on sand dunes with balloon tires. Went on 2-3 night trips - kept ...

Cheers, good stuff. I've got the compressor, winch really is not needed nobody has one. Besides we never go alone. Guys, I should have said at the beginning, I'm in the interior of the UAE so availability of mods: zero! Everything must come by post, but I have good access to scraps from GU/GQ and ...

Thanks guys - good advice. Yes, it's a P40, just been rebuilt. Tires are Pirelli Scorpion 31x10.50 and in good shape, so they'll stay for a while. Definitely need to work on suspension and power. Terrain is flowing sand dunes, some 300 feet high. My options for suspension from over here (I'm in the ...

fresh-bought MQ: pics, and mod questions

Here's the MQ I've just bought - full bone stock, in very good shape. If you had $ 1,000 to plough in, please list me the first 5 mods you'd do for sand desert driving. Appreciated. http://www.dubai4x4.com/albums/album07/CapsulaPR_4.jpg http://www.dubai4x4.com/albums/album07/CapsulaPR_3.jpg http ...

Yeah, it's a tough place for old cars, as people just keep buying new ones the moment the old one gets old. I'm also quite far from Dubai and so need to be self-reliant. So far, I've rebuilt and modified a 93 Wrangler and a 83 GMC 1/2 tonne. For the MQ, it's consumables I'm worried about - if a ...

MQ Newb - Spares Online?

Just found a beauty of a 1982 Patrol K160-638319 with 4.0lt engine, 4 gears, in very good shape... my worry is spares. I work in the interior of the United Arab Emirates, just on the edge of the Rub al Khali desert, and the local Nissan guys on the phone say absolutely no chance of parts. I want ...
