Me thinks your boost gauge is faulty. 2psi at idle doesn't seem right. Picture is worth a 1000 words[/quote]

Anyone ever typed a hugely long reply only to have to log in again and lose the lot?

For 150rwkw i'd reckon a GT2871R 52 trim comp wheel with a .86 a/r turbine housing. I don't reckon a GT2876R is needed as a 71 will flow plenty of air with less lag

When I stripped mine (1997 TD42 Blacktop from GQ coilcab) it had oil squirters and 30mm little ends. It now has gallery cooled, ceramic coated, machined crown turbo pistons and 150rwkw on 33's. As far as I know there's 28mm little ends on early silver tops. Later black tops (unsure what year they ...

Yeah bump on this, i'd also like to know about rocker ratios. Was thinking about an increase in rocker ratio on the TD42 for bigger lift

1KZ-TE exh. manifold on 5L?

G'day,
My brother has an '02 Hilux fitted with the 5L-E. He has been offered a complete turbo and intercooler setup from a Prado 1KZ-TE that is being wrecked. Will the 1KZ-TE exhaust manifold bolt up to the 5L-E head? If so, is this conversion worthwhile (ie easy fit or PITA!)

Cheers,
Muz

Bigger Turbo on TD42!!

Hi all,

Sent my Garrett T3 turbo off to GCG in Sydney the other day to be remodelled! It’s the turbo that is used as part of the Safari kit on the TD42. I came up with some ideas and this is what they want to do:

Machine my T3 housing to suit a GT3071R 84 trim turbine wheel, and GT3071R CHRA.
Fit ...

TB42 or TB45 efi manifold on TD42T

Will these fit, cause I reckon it would flow better than the top entry log manifold that is standard on the TD42T. Anyone tried??

Yeah built the engine myself using an engines Australia TD42T kit. Shaved each piston crown in a lathe between 2 and 7 thou to give all 6 a zero deck height when installed in the block and then sent them off to have the crowns ceramic coated. Then balanced each one with a die grinder.

West end is ...

The horsepower used to refrigerate the water would negate any benefit felt by the cold water. You can't get something for nothing i'm afraid. Water/air intercooler a good thing though

Block is a '97 originally non turbo with oil cooled ceramic coated turbo pistons. Fuel usage on the highway at 110km/h (2.6tonne) is 15l/100km

GQ Turbo/Intercooler dyno result

Hi all, just thought i'd post a pic of my TD42 Safari turbo/intercooled GQ for those interested! It has 12mm plunger in pump, mod injectors, slightly dropped compression, 18lbs boost. Pump has a fair bit of room to move upwards of this figure, but i'm not sure about the turbo. It currently runs 550 ...

Safari Garrett T3 max boost?

G'Day all,
new poster here. I've been happily learning in the background for a while now while I rebuilt my TD42.
This forum has been really great as there's so many people who've spent the time building some grunty TD42's.
My question is does anyone know how much boost the Safari Garrett T3 is ...
