Re: Tuff Truck 2012 Update

Third year driving up from Melbourne for me (and just booked my tickets :D ) Its a great event you guys put on, with some fantastic (and friendly) teams competing. I'm getting a little old to blow off steam like the young guys, but I think the event has reached a good balance between the families ...

I'm a first time TT attendee driving up from Melbourne, so sorry for what might be an obvious question...

If I'm driving up in the 2wd car, is there any problem getting into camping areas?

Cheers,

My old 3L had one, but looking at the newer 4.2's, the radiator is larger (i.e. hangs down further). Maybe the plastic guard didn't fit anymore and Nissan just deleted it rather than do a re-design.

My '05 TD42 doesn't have one either - perhaps the dealer is correct...
Would also be interested in aftermarket options anyone has.

Here's a very good reference document that Dynamica rope have generated.
It lists a number of common winches and the suggested rope lengths, drum diameter etc.

This site sells Lithium Ion 12v 26Ah battery packs for ebikes.
Not cheap - but fair bit of power packed into 2.65kg.

I've had a Kaymar bar on the last GU, and now an ARB bar on the new GU (at last something I can comment on...) It's true that the ARB bar takes a full day to fit, while the Kaymar bar just about bolts straight up in one piece. It takes even longer when ARB supply the wrong side braces – but that’s an ...

I'm not happy though - still driving around in the 3.0L until the 4.2 arrives.
I think you actually notice it more when the bloody thing is gone!

Glad he likes it.

It seems that the US military is a few steps ahead.

Check out this 4x4 that they currently have in testing (using in-hub/wheel) electric motors).

I don't think we are talking in circles. There are a number of hybrid electric/pertrol cars in production today - and good reasons for doing this way (although probably only an interim step). Have a look at the following link which I found after the original link. http://www.autointell-news.com/News ...

The interesting thing about these in-wheel electric motors is that the required gearing is integrated into the 42kg wheel. The car shown uses a 4.588 ratio (geared for a top speed of 190mph+ and a little high for a 4x4) but the principle is shown. A 4x4 would have much more scope for gearing and ...

I think that in-wheel electric motors have far more potential. There are proto-types now that can provide 55kw of in-wheel power that weight 42kg (including gearing). Think of one of these on each wheel...(and max torque available from 0rpm !). Link to the proto-type (road) car... http://www.popsci ...
