gearbox

I've just noticed something else... If I'm parked with the clutch in and in say 1st gear, then let the car roll back or forward a little, it seems to roll a little then stop, like something inside is getting jammed in the teeth or something... But if its not in gear it won't jam up and stop, it will ...

60 Series Gearbox problem

The gearbox in my 60 started to do some weird stuff today..... It doesn't make bearing noise and seems like its in good nick. For some reason (whilst sitting still) I can attempt to put it in 2nd and 4th without the clutch in! But then when changing into either of those gears, it struggles...CRUNCH ...

Hi, I rescently found out that I can do a welding course that will certify me for structural welding or something. This can be in either mig/tig/arc and runs two nights a week at my local tafe. They just spent a whole heap of dough and bought heaps of Lincoln welders. The course I want to do is arc ...

The outer spacer thingy will probably be made out of thick walled pipe (Seamless), and I'm going to do the stud size upgrade. I'm going to laser cut some 10mm to get the correct stud pattern and use it to drill the holes in the pipe. The pipe length only needs to be 20mm in which will contain the ...

I'm in the middle of this whole conversion and looks that it will probably work. I bought some FRONT calipers off a Subaru Brumby, which suprisingly have the handbrake on them (for those who were like me and didn't know that some of the old suby's ran the handbrake off the front end, now you do). I ...

I had the same problem on mine for years...then I realised the vacuum line was kinked and then it worked a treat. If you have the later model 60 then your 4wd system will run off vacuum, check it out.

After spending the last 2 hours trying to find some info on the net about the strange occurance of the 'front end handbrake', I found it...WOT THE.... I would never of guessed this was the setup !!
Anyhow thanks for the patience and I hope now that I can do this conversion aswell.

Sorry for my annoying messages, but it just seems a bit weird that the front brakes have a hand brake mechanism in them...

When these calipers are on the leone, does the handbrake function from the FRONT end ...?

Quote "the calipers that suit the 18mm discs of a leone have the hand brake mech built in." Are they off the back of the leone or the front of the leone, the reason I ask is that I spoke to wrecker today and he said they aren't vented and aren't anywhere near big enough to fit an 18mm rotor between ...

Quote " No, the conversion uses Subaru Leone or Brumby FRONT calipers which come factory fitted with a hand brake facility, on the rear. A brake caliper is a brake caliper, there is no front or rear, just how you use them. " A rear caliper on an 80 series is definitely different to the front !! I'm ...

I've got my 60 in bits at the moment...
The front hub bolts onto the rear with the need of a 20mm spacer on the end of it so the axle does'nt go through the diff centre, the bearings are the same.

Are you talking about the hilux front onto the rear?

So if they are off the front what are these guys doing for a handbrake? Is'nt the hand brake on the rear?

If they are'nt having the handbrake on the wheels then why did'nt they just stick the 60 front hub on the rear, because they just bolt on?

I'm a little confused... I've got a DBA catalog and it's telling me that neither the brumby or leone have a vented rear disc, this means that its either not listed, drum or not vented. I just rang a Suby wrecker and he seems to think that the leone does'nt have a vented rear and the discs are paper ...

Just as a last minute comment..... I've worked on 80's and Gq's, I own a 60. I still have'nt come across a car that is easier to work on than the 60! I expect that if I did a major overhaul to the braking system I would probably have the same braking capabilities as you guys, but the length of time that a set of rear discs would last in comparison to a set of drums makes it worth it. Sweet! So to get this right your only using the 80 series hubs to widen the track (I dont need to do that) so can I use the 60 hubs? Hi, I've done some research on this topic and it seems that there are multiple combinations of doing this, but I cannot find anyone who has actually done it from start to finish that can safely say it's worth it.
