Re: reduction gears
You can also opt if you have a big tire combo on the car for a small reduction in the high range gearing as well, I think the standard set I have seen from Marks Adapters is 15% under driven from the stock ratio, this might work out better than have to match front and rear Diff's with new crown and ...

Re: GU patrol - 3.0td reliability?
I've got a mate desperate to get himself another fourby. It's intended to be a tourer, with trips to the cape, across the simpson etc planned. While at home it will be a daily driver, used to tow the boat and do weekly trips on the beach. His only prerequisite is that it must be a larger engine ...

Re: Lawn Ornament "which engine"
I would choose a GU petrol but only on gas, it's a better engine off road and onroad than anything else that came out in those cars and it tows well too. In terms of transplanting a 4.8 I would imagine its as large a task as say a Gen3 (in terms of getting the harness patched, or fitted if it came ...

Re: Lawn Ornament "which engine"
Have you looked into buying a GQ 4.2 Diesel with low km,s no more than 200 000 - 250 000km and taking everything you need to do the swap then sell of what is left. Then get an aftermarket turbo. That is what I did and it was the cheapest way to do it although I did all the work except the wiring ...

Re: Lawn Ornament "which engine"
Well currently when the Truth of all the various options come out, they aren't that much different, unless you spin the spanners yourself and hook some good deals on the bits. Given the opening quotes I have had at the present on all the various options, the Duramax is looking good, just waiting on ...

With the TD42 option, I would look at it three ways, Part my truck and just find one a TD6 as a replacement, look for donor salvage and part, look to get all the pieces independent to fit. Cost and risk would be the decider. 10K is shy of the 12500K for a complete new 6.5 chev, but once I get all ...

Well @ 163,000km the ZD30 shat its pants and the vehicle now sits on my nature strip as a lawn ornament at the present. OPTIONS: Rebuild the boat anchor myself (cheapest and most risky option as I will be learning a little as I go, but I am not afraid of the consequences because the outlay is ...

Right looking for some advice, bascially pinging everywhere, I am coming back to Australia, my GU has been sitting for 2 years, its needs a Clutch and I don't like the brakes on it at the moment. It also needs a major book type service and I suppose a detailed fluid/seal whatever the f*ck it needs ...

Yank Donk for GU
Well while I am in the states I can get hold of pretty well any of the current Diesels. Does anyone know of anyone in Australia that has fitted an engine other than the 6.2/6.5 Chev into a GU Patrol. I can get access to the Duramax, Powerstroke and of course the Cummins both old and new. I am ...

Nope the 4.2L and the 3.0L Diesel boxes are totally different, the 3L TD uses the same box as the 2.8L diesel which is the same as the 3L petrol box. the GQ and GU boxes are slighty different but you can put a GQ box into a GU and Vice versa, just the bellhousings are different i believe You are ...

How much simple misinformation can you get? To start all 3L and 4.2L TD share the same Gearbox in the GU. Second there was a faulty shaft issue where the fifth cog would sit and basically it would strip off the shaft. Series II on should all be resolved. Last Nissan fixed mine out of warranty and ...

It seems that you have taken the Chev into account as an enabler to get you the percieved power you think you will need for the OBC. Would you have even bought the shorty with a OBC plan if you didn't have the chev? If the answer is yes then the decision I think is easy to make, stick with the 4.2 ...

Anyone have any frecken tips on how to get the lower rear bolt off the alternator, frecken thing is pissing me off, the aircon piping stops me getting socket and 1/2in drive on it and I can't get any leverage off a ringy or open ender.
