Re: 2000 3.0 GU Patrol Engine options

Thanks for the help. He has been steered away from the 3.0 by his 4x4 mechanic that really only works on nissans and Toyotas, and he is not a nissan hater by any means. I too have heard bad things about the 3.0.

I also asked on the patrol forum but gave up after i was not allowed to post the above ...

The 4 speed auto works well. You just need a better than standard torque converter.

If you want a airbox upgrade on the cheap then fit a cobra head.
It is an easy mod and is cheap.

I don't think that's the axle? They had a recall on wheel studs.
Me, the 3l are just too small. Have a 2004 dual cab and the lil bugger went bang at 240k, had nads since 146k, serviced every 5 k, oil and filter.

The early ones had issues. 2000 - 2002.
From 2003 onwards they fixed most of the issues.
These days with NADS we don't tend to worry about grenading.

Re: GU faulty hazard lights

It is a different fuse mate.
The indicator fuse is under the dash.
The hazard flasher fuse is under the bonnet.
It is known to pop when used with a trailer attached. Up the fuse to 15A if it is a issue. Either that or switch to LED trailer lights.

Re: Can you fit a winch without a bullbar legally?

The ADR's concerned, regardless of age of vehicle will be to do with "Protrusions".

If it is outside the bumper area it would not comply, but if everything was tucked in behind it will be ok.

What type of vehicle is it going on?

Re: GU blowing BLACK SMOKE

The soot would be caused by the leak in the exhaust manifold gasket.
It is relativly easy to replace. The reason it cost so much is because it is labour intensive and takes around 6hrs to do.
If you want to know what is involved in changing the gasket then read my writeup on the subject.
