Generally pretty robust, except when on gas they heads may need some attention. Patrol4x4.com has all the info you need.

Just make sure the fan shroud seals well against the radiator. That was the issue with my 3.5L V8 Hilux.

Very reliable. Sold mine at 290,000km over a year ago and still see it around going strong. They are slow and sluggish (for a 4.5 petrol) but they take a thrashing and come back for more.

That seems a bit steep, I average 26L/100km on LPG and about 30L/100km towing my 900kg camper. I don't drive slow but I don't thrash it either. I get about 20-22l/100km on petrol.

It could also be an air leak in the fuel line between tank and pump. Check/tighten all fittings.

Re: Whats the best 07-11 Daily Driven/Touring/Mild Dual cab
I drove my old boss' new 2.5L D22. I have not had much experience with diesels. I drive a Mazda Bravo 2.6 petrol for work and a 4.5 petrol GU for a play car. Below 2000rpm, it was terrible. If you went around a corner in 3rd at 30-40kph and tried to accelerate, it basically felt like someone has ...

Castrol VMX-80. Lots have replaced their gearbox oil with something else then noticed some grinding/crunching during gear changes. They then use Castrol VMX-80 and the crunches/noises go away.

advancing timing
My work car (05 Mazda Bravo 2.6) has had a gas conversion. I use Premium unleaded when I run on Petrol. I often do country runs so it has to run well on both petrol and gas. I advanced the timing a bit so it went better on gas and gave a bit better economy. The way I set it was I advanced the timing ...

Sorry Cam. Back on topic now. Transfer cases on all engine types are the same. Internally, yes. Externally, the diesel models (3.0/4.2) have the handbrake drum mounted on the rear output shaft. The petrols dont, as the handbrakes are inside the rear discs. The 4.5 has the handbrake on the rear ...

The CRD model (2007-present) seems to have a good record, none have had the melted pistons (I haven't found any during my internet research). The newer the better though.

Will definitely make a difference, just don't expect it to feel like a turbo. You will get minimal power increase but it will rev more freely and have better response. Economy should increase slightly if you drive it nice.

I tried a few different setups. I removed the rear seats which freed up so much room. The first was this one. I didn't have a fridge back then though. I moved the cargo barrier to behind the front seats and put an air mattress on top. It was OK but was a bit small for my 6'6" frame. http://i204 ...

Re: Gu patrol door lock
My alarm has this feature and it also randomly did it (or so I thought).
I soon figured out that the doors only locked if they were shut when the car was started. If the doors were open when the car was started, the doors obviously wouldn't try and lock.
Just a thought...
