[As capability goes up, does the fun factor go down? Maybe.... perhaps this is related to risk factor and money factor both going up so much........ or maybe seeking engineering solutions over driving your a55 off in a car that just isn't really up to it but a driver with a never say die attitude ...

Thanks for that mate...

Funny thing is, in well over five years, the best fun I have ever had in a 4x4 or 6x6 with my clothes on, was in a Fiat Panda 4x4! They are cheap as hell here in the UK and tough as hell too. Drive it like you stole it and it'll take most things in it's stride. You don't ...

Same old thing...

"My 4x4 is better than yours and if you say it isn't I will throw my toys out of the pram!"

They are all good at some things and bad at others so why does everybody need to be so damn defensive eh?

I have an RR classic with a 200Tdi - I love it. It rusts faster than a 70's ...

Great little vehicle.

Need a few things done but tougher than hell - mind you if you go to the old USSR as was and drive any of the roads you find out why. Full time 4x4 system came out 2 years before the RR so well fettled.

Things to do.

There are no shims in the LADA (GAZ/UAZ) factory so ...

An old friend of mine has a multimeter fitted to his Patrol. It is used for Balloon chasing in North Africa so is expo equiped to the max. He he has four batteries for various things, like GPS/GIS mapping soft/hard etc.

He runs twin alternators (110amp) as the batteries are all Deta Blacks which ...

I have a 22x16' block built garage. Problem is that the door is 6'42 high and the RR is 6'6" high! And thats with the roof rack off. I need a new door.

Good thing is that the garage is 10' from the pub - this is also a bad thing... Its a good pub. I also have a beer fridge for when it's closed ...

I've been testing a couple on my Tdi for a few months now. The UK distributor sent them FOC...

They make a hell of a difference to fuel economy - upto 36mpg on the RR.

Problem is you lose bottom end, off turbo grunt. I am going to play with the pump and waste gate for a bit, but if I can't get ...

No diagrams but I can probably draw one - however the only difference on the sytem I use to BeZeRK is that he runs the opps ffed for the solonoid to a system on the vehicle - I run mine to a relayed switch (40amp relay and illuminated switch). The volt meter is a cheap TIM guage that I found on a ...

I have always done what BeZerK suggests. Except I wire the ops side to a H/D manual switch instead of a system switch (like the wipers).

I always make sure my second battery is a deep cycle type - at present it is a 90Amphour DETA Blue - it runs all the auxillaries and has the juice to start the ...

A 14 tonne SWL short lifting strap about ten feet long is ideal - with a padded slip collet so you don't need an extra shackle...

Be careful it's not too short or you can pull in the chassis rails under high load... ;)

Fairynuff...

It's a strange world we live in!

Genuine Jate rings are loaded to 14,000lbs - more than enough to tear the chassis...

ideal for a Rangey but not for all other makes of 4x4...

I used to like a welded loop from the end of either chassis rail supported by a butterfly plate ...

Why not just fit two Jate rings and run a bridle between? :D
