Hi
I currently have a XJ and as you mentioned they are good value for money.
I had a 5" lifted GQ patrol and my 3" lifted XJ does everything the GQ did except real deep ruts 2-3 foot full flex type.
The Nissan had a better LSD but the jeep has far better low range.
Climbing real steep stuff is ...

I got to say 440w or 540w of HID is unreal. I have 140w of high beam HID and thats unreal 1.3k's of spot and light out at approx 50' to 450m,
no problem with vision untill I switch to (normal) 200w halogen low beam (bit dull). I got to say I think single globe hid is great but am still not conviced ...

With the change of globes for the lightforce to the vertical filament globe.
Unfortunately you cant run with this mod, as these globes are designed to be used on portable power pack applications upto 12.8 v(Shooters and the like)
If you try to run these in your car the will work untill you start ...

88 gq ute conversion
Hi
Did a search (perhaps i'm dumb)
Is it easy to convert a 88 gq ute (MQ front) to a later model front end (indicators, gaurds ect). I do know you have to reposition the headlights, is that all that needs to be done.
thanks Greg

How much over the 30amps can a relay handle? (ie. I know that electric motors pull max amps just on start-up) Would it handle a inrush current of up to 50amps?

My mate has a rb30 Turbo, has done about 30-40 tho hard k's and only replaced the box cause it had a bearing niose in 5th gear. As the previous owner towed a big boat in 5th (pre-turbo install). So I'm unsure as to how weak these boxes are his car has about 170rwkw.

These are spec's for a 35w HID system that I pulled from a site.
If you apply the same sort of formula's to a 50w system he is pulling more current than a 30amp relay can provide.
Ballast Input Voltage (nominal) 13.5V
Ballast Input Voltage (operating) 7V to 21V

Even though you are using a 30amp relay, when HID's start up they pull more than the rated power (eg your 50w set-up). I think from memory that even 35 HIDs pull about 70w on cold start-up. Which working with that formula you would be pulling about 38amps if your using all 4 50watt HID's on start-up ...

The formula is watts divide by volts = amps.
So therefore 260 / 12 = 21.6 amps.
you will find that a 30 amp fuse is more than big enough, the problem will be when you re-install the new globes there is a silicon sleve which insulates the positive, if this sleve doesn't completely cover the ...

It has only 2' lift, have checked all wheel bearings, rear diff, transfer case, all brake backing plates, handbrake shoes ...

Be careful though, when you check top to bottom slack it could also be your swivelhubs. To check this get someone to apply the footbrake and then check if you still get movement (top-bottom, front-back) if you do it is the swivel hubs, not the wheel bearings as these are attached to the wheel hub ...
