Surge Tanks
Have you considered having the long range tank altered to accept a 100 series in tank pump fitted. No need for external surge tank then,less bits to find room for,less plumbing means less possible leaks.

Mule, do yourself a favour, go to your nearest Toyota dealer and get yourself a tube of silicone oil for the coupling.Have done this mod for a couple of 75's now which had the same symptoms as your describing and after a good radiator clean out and engine flush you will find a huge difference.
