I did this conversion about two years ago and it was a direct swap unplug the loom from 2.8 gearbox change the plug on the end of the loom to suit the 4.2 gear box plug in and all had been right since.

Brake proportional valve extention
Guys have asked around local suppliers to why the need to lower the brake proportional valve at rear of a GQ. SO far responses have been vague. What’s the reason, is the length its extended proportional to the lift that you fit. Looking at lifting my truck and trying to do as much home work as I can. ...

Got stuck into this last night ground a bit of the face and sharpen up a masonry bit and it worked a treat. I must have sharpend the drill about 20 times to get therough the hard facing but once through that the material wasnt that hard. Took about 1 1/2 hours but got it all finished. Tapping the ...

Thanks guys for the responsers will heating the end of the shaft weaken it.
I was thinking of this but was a little unsure of the effect this would have on the shaft in the long run. I would asume that sinse the brake its self dosent come into contact with the end it should be OK?????

Just after some advice in how people have drilled and tapped the shaft on a high mount to remove the circlip that holds the brake on. I know people will say use a drill. I have had it in a lathe and it didnt scratch it tried a drill real slow with heaps of cutting compund still no luck. I have ...

i dont see the point in sperating the gear box and transfer case if what you buy is ok. It may only lead to extra work in the future if you dont install correctly. The tail shafts on the 2.8 are smaller than the 4.2 would this mean that they may be stronger. Changing pion flangers would be far ...

Not kowing that much about turbo's, i would think that the turbo from the 2.8 wouldnt be big enough for the 4.2 engine.
I think i may have read a thread on here once before from someone asking the same question.

The engaine change is fairly straight forward. The gear box /transfer case is a stright swap, cross member hole centers are the same. You will have to change pinion flanges on your diffs, clutch line is on other side of bell housing, radiator is different, power steraring pumps are different. If you ...

changing GQ clutch.
Ive done mine on my own by slipping an engine crain through the LH front door and lifting it up through the hole where your gear sticks come out of very easy and quick to do by your self. I used tree trunk protector to sling it as its wide and helps level it up to slip nicely on the dowels.

2.8 into 4.2.
I have just fnished this convertion about 4 months ago. If you remove the glowplugs from the 2.8 donk and sick them in the 4.2 it works fine no need to change the wireing. The gearbox cross member holes line up but you will have to change the rhs engine mount. I just fabed a plate up to line up on ...
