My 80 blows a whitish smoke that smells of oil and Toyota told me last week that this baffle needs checking as it may be allowing oil in. I only notice small amounts of oil loss in between 5000km changes but the smoke is enough to get attention. Wodonga Toyota service guy reckons it's common and ...

The above two responses are your most likely causes. If it becomes more frequent/rapid with more accessories turned on then it is most likely a loose earth causing your Edic motor to cycle.

You can visually check this by running engine and turning lights on and watching the connector rod between ...

which engine? if it is a 3B or 2H with an EDIC, chances are you have a bad earth or other wiring fault that resuts in a small voltage across the EDIC motor, causing it to cycle occasionally.

that might not explain the whole electrics cutting out though. maybe bad earth connection on the battery ...

80 series jumping out of high range

I have just fitted a second hand gearbox and transfer case to my full time 4wd 80 series.

The new transfer case jumps out of high range frequently and when it is engaged there is a loud whining noise. The noise is consistent with speed, not revs, so I'm expecting it's in the transfer case and not ...

Why will the coils be sitting under the rails? You will limit the spring length you can run and/or increase the ride height significantly for the same travel. Especially if you are running captured coils.

This link has the axel codes. I run a 4.1 hiace centre in my lux which is apparently from an early 90's 2.8 diesel van, but I say apparently as it was an Ebay purchase so I can't confirm.

4 Runners only went IFS in 1986.
In 1989 (maybe late 88) the 3rd generation Hiluxs were released with IFS in all SR5 models ONLY.
All models became IFS in 1997 with the introduction of the 4th generation.

Toyrex is right, the ratios will differ although it will bolt straight in. The 80 series rear is a larger centre and will not fit the hilux.

Hilux Axel code, G895

Chasing some info for a mate's hilux and his axel code reads G895

I've done the searches, spent all arvo searching.

G =8"
89 =what ratio???
5 = 4 pinion LSD

I can't find the 89 ratio code in any of the lists anywhere. It's a gen 3 dual cab with a 3L so it should be a 4.3 right?

I run blue lenses on my light forces and I believe they increase visibility in rain and snow fall.

I believe they are legal because they only look blue when they are turned off. Turn them on and look at them and they do not look blue, they look white. Try it.

I had this issue with mine and was told to look for a bad earth but I haven't driven it since I was given this advice.
