You hit the nail on the head blacklion..put an mp3 player in the other day and did exactly that, put the earth to what i thought was the earth in the old plug.. fixed by simply earthing to the body..

QG patrol parking lights problem
Can anyone help me fault find a problem with my parking lights..Was putting spotties on the other day and noticed that I didnt have any lights on when i switched the lightswitch to "parking lights".. checked the fuse and it was blown so, as i was doing spotties and it had nothing to do with parking ...
