Re: Triton rear ends SOLVED

Hi, I include my answer just in case someone else is interested. Looked around the car yards and got to measure a 2002 Triton across the rear springs, 995 mm, same as my 85 L300. 2009 was way wider, at least 50 mm. So, I assume that 10/96 to 2003, MK, are bolt up to spring compatible with most early ...

Triton rear ends

Hi Triton people, Do any of you know the rear spring centers for an MK, maybe Challenger too, and for the MJ. I believe I have read that the earlies, up to MJ had ~39" centers. I need to know if the springs are further apart on the wider rear end as I am looking at bolting one in my L300. I have a 4 ...

triton tech

Hi, Are there any Triton members that would like to have tech details posted like the excellent Pajero set? I would like to ask a few questions. Is 86-96 Triton the same transfer case as Pajero and L300? Are the 97 and up cases similar in length and bolt pattern? Are any of these cases 23 spline ...

L300 4WD

Hi,
Can anyone tell me where I can a listing that shows which transmission/transfercase is fitted to the 1987/1996 L300 2.4i 4WD van or can someone tell me.
Also, is the transmission output a 24 or 23 spline version?

Hi,
Sirius 4g64/3 timing gear.
Could anyone tell me if the crankshaft gear bolt is right or left thread.
I gave it some as for right but thought I better ask before going at it big time.

ratios

I have 4.875 now. I want to fit a 9" rear and the common ratios here are 4.9 and 4.636. I will buy a L200/Triton rear end. 4.625 in a 7.25" is fairly common in early Pajero/Raider so that should not be too hard to get. It would be so close to the 4.636 that I could live with the wind up, equivalent ...

ring and pinion

Hi,
Can anyone confirm that an L300 85 SD front diff is the same as an early Pajero? It appears the same just looking at it and I assume it is 7.25"
Are ring and pinion sets genuine mitsubishi only or are there aftermarket suppliers?

Hi Dave, I will check again but the factory book definitly puts the diesel with the taller diff. The only other reference I have seen on vehicle specs list was a 3Ltr petrol with a 4.9 final drive. Challenger listed 4.636 for both petrol and diesel, man and auto. Thanks for your comment, I will ...

Triton rear end interchange info

Hi, I measured my son's 2002 V6 Triton rear end and found it will bolt in place of my 85 L300 rear end. It would increase the track for more inner guard clearance. Can anyone tell me what other years carry the 2002 type rear end and what ratios are out there. Mine is 4.875:1 and has 28 spline axles ...

Going "there"

Hi CJer,
I did not mean to devalue any info the jeep section has. I always find it useful.
I have both a 44 willys and a replica of the same based on a mitsubishi chassis so I genuinely asked my question in both forums and was grateful for all the info.
Thanks again for your help.

good news

Bitsamissin, Thanks, you sure seem to have the low down on lots of info. Since these 23 spliners are the same then that would mean the atlas would also be adaptable. Only problem may be clearance of the left torsion bar(this goes for the NP231 also) but moving the motor trans to the right may solve ...

Hi, Has anyone in the ACT area got a 23 spline gearbox or transfer case on the floor.
I am looking for one to check a spline fit.
Alternatively does anyone know if the 23 spline auto trans output from jeep is the same one on a mitsubishi 23 spline auto?

I have since been told that the VM diesel used in range rover/discovery was a lemon and am concerned that they are that way in jeeps.
Anyone had any problems that would point to expensive repairs down the track?

Cherokee diesel

Hi,
I am considering buying a 97 ish Cherokee and wondered if any forum members have experience with the 2.5 diesel version.
The torque figure of 300 Nm seems to be ok but how does it work in practice?
Are there any known common problems with them?
Thanks and regards, Al.

This will allow adjustments of less than one tooth overall.

I would be real suspitious of the fuel quality if the smoke comes and goes with refueling. Do you use the same outlet or some no name outlet?

Sydney should be full of reputable diesel guys and I'm sure it would not be expensive to ask one or two of them to comment.
