Re: 2001 NM Exceed Oil Leak
Quite possibly, the oil leak (on either side) comes from the plugs in the ends of the rocker covers. They are simply an alloy plug with an O ring. Two 10 mm bolts on each side of a flange hold the plug in. The R side one is easy enough to get to, but the L side is very difficult. O rings are fairly ...

Re: Glow plug wiring
According to my Haymes manual for the Pajero, the resistance for the glow plugs should be 0.05 to 0.07 ohms. At 12 Volts, 0.06 ohms corresponds to 200 amps. OK - as they start to heat up, the resistance increases, and the current decreases but I would say that your fuse rating is way too low. You ...

Re: Repainting leaf springs?
I would be inclined to leave them alone. If you paint them with a good flexible paint, eventually a crack will develop somewhere and water will get in and cause more rust, leading to possible failure down the track.

Re: Pajero 4x4 Super Select Flashing lights
How long do the lights flash? My old NL Pajero used to go for ages before finally the 4WD lights would stay steady on. $WD needs to be selected often and then it will go into 4WD quickly. I used to engage 4WD probably at least once every 3 weeks, and it used to work OK. If I didn't do this, it used ...

No-one seems to be on the Mitsubishi topic. Everyone else is on about problems with their Toyotas, Nissans etc, but we Mits people seem to have no problems??? Or is it that we are so submerged in ours that we only occasionally come up for air?

Re: Axle Swap L200
I cannot help specifically, but from memory the L200 is a 2WD van, so diff ratio change will only affect your speedo reading and possibly the overall performance of the vehicle. If it is a 4WD, then you will have problems in 4WD on hard surfaces for sure. The other things to look for would be the ...

Re: Stray current corrosion
Rustivit: There is a lot more to the science than just looking at the Galvanic table. Other features such as the conductive medium (coolant) and the relative sizes of the components affect the indiced voltages, so it is not a simple problem - as you have found out. Getting a coating of an insulating ...

Re: Stray current corrosion
Sorry - I have run our of ideas. 900 mV seems a lot to me - higher than I feel it should, but I cannot think of anything which would cause readings that high, other than a different metal used in the radiator. Check out this reference to see the voltages... http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com ...

Re: Stray current corrosion
Rustyvit: The fact that the voltage difference remains even with the battery disconnected suggests to me that you don't have any stray currents being induced by installed electrical stuff eg temp gauge, electric fans etc. That is good. In order for galvanic corrosion to occur, you need a voltage ...

Re: Stray current corrosion
The fact that you now have a higher voltage differential is good. If the differential was low, you would have leakage current somewhere. I am surprised at the level of the voltage, but if the difference is going up, to me it means more resistance to earth and this is a good thing. The voltage is ...

Re: Stray current corrosion
Not much help to you, but with 0.47 V between the aluminium radiator and the cast iron block, I would say that there isn't any electrical coupling there - and that is how it should be. In fact, I was expecting lower voltage - more like 250 mV. Maybe when the engine is running, you are getting some ...

Re: Stray current corrosion
Check the voltage difference between the engine block and the battery earth terminal and also the radiator metal. I would expect maybe 100 mV difference between the radiator and the engine block. If you get minimal difference between the radiator and the block, you have an electrical connection ...

Ouch! When you look at the Pajeroclub forum, check out the Gen 4.3, 4.2 and 4.1 forums. There has been a lot of discussion on this topic. Also the discussion on the blanking plate for the EGR, although I guess that you have thrown a code telling you the EGR solenoid is stuffed. A worthy cheating ...

Re: EGR Valve Solenoid
If you read the Pajeroclub.com.au forum, you will find lots of entries on EGR failures. Go to the bank manager first before you go to Mits. There is a mod out there which apparently tricks the ECU into thinking that the outside temoperature is still fairly low, and therefore the EGR system is never ...

Re: Stray Current ARGHHH!!!
How is the radiator mounted? Is it insulated from the body? Most modern installations have rubber mountings which act as vibration dampers and also insulators. NW Pajero Centre Diff Lock
I was wondering if anyone here has modified their Pajero (particularly late model Pajeros) so that the centre diff lock doesn't come on when in low range. My aim is to allow me to use low range when reversing a heavy load and place less strain on the clutch.

Re: Surface Rust on Cromo Axles
I would be asking for a significant reduction in the asking price for these axles. Reason - the rust has occurred at the worst possible place. The axle is loaded mainly in torsion and the highest stress occurs at the surface. It is OK if there is no pitting, but even then there will be micro pitting ...

Re: 1990 NG air con / interior fan
Does the fan work on High setting only? If it does, it is the resistor which controls the fan speed. The resistor will be located in the underside of the fan casing and will have several wires going to it. You will get access to it from under the evaporator unit inside the cabin. If the resistor ...

Re: Led driving lights - watts/amps query
You measured the current at 12.6 Volts. What about 30 V? You would probably get more current then, although not the full 30/12.6 times the current because the load would probably not be a purely resistive load. It would be interesting to see how much more light they put out at 30 Volts.

I was looking under the hood of my Pajero today and could not see any condensate drain for the aircon. Maybe it is winter mix. Canberra is fairly cold (similar to Cooma, but 6 weeks ago neither place was cold). I have heard that Cooma runs winter mix all year round. I'll come clean about my mistake... I changed the timing belt on my Pajero NL. I also changed the crankshaft oil seal when I had it all in pieces. To do this you have to remove the crank angle cam, which is a flat disc with a series of slots in the disc. When I started it up, there was a screeching ...
