Re: Engine swaps

The problem with XJ towing 3T is not the engine

you have a mid size wheel base a small D35 real axle and monoque construction so the trailer ends up steering the XJ

If you want to tow 3 T regularly and want a Jeep then a FSJ is the choice standard with a 360 V8 and plenty of weight to tow well, if ...

Way too broad a question

What jeep and drive line currently installed and what engine you think of ??? You can mix and match almost anything on a Jeep so better to start with what you have and your build ideas than a broad question ...

Re: xj auto trans and various issues??

For #3 first thing I would look at is the TCM getting power ? (and earth)

The AW4 is shifted by a combination of cable and TCM solenoid setting if it only shifts where the cable shifter is set to points to TCM problem

Re: Tuning for power and economy petrol Jeeps

I am considering buying the software for the Jeep, it only covers the petrol variants in the 4.0L and the current V6. They are not the cheapest things to tune as it requires a Flash box from Diablo at about $850 dollars plus tuning, estimate another $600. I believe their will be good gains as they ...

Wooders doesnt really do CJ stuff (nobody here does really :( )

It might be cheaper to actually go to the USA arrange a heap of parts and ship them myself. Can get return flights for 1k these days.

Re: Big wheels Under an XJ

You also need to think about the rear axle with 35's as the D35 is not really the best candidate

But the real question is WHY 35's just because thats what everyone runs on a pootrol or land barge ? 35's on a XJ are unbelievable when done to work right see http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum ...

you dont say what this is in but assuming its a factory D300 then your talking CJ7 with a 4" lift let alone lifting the output through drive line mods you will almost certainly need a double cardin drive shaft The rear shaft in a CJ7 was short from the factory add any angle and it need help

your biggest limiting factor is the wheelbase length put any decent weight behind a short wheelbase and the trailer will steer you

its the same for Toyota FJ40's zuk's etc

Re: got myself a 93 cherokee sport (where do i start)

out of the box a XJ will surprise Japanese 4x4's in its sleep add a small lift some good tyres some rock sliders and lockers and you will be able to tour and play big in the same jeep

or go to town on it cut guards and 35's and look out.

Weakest parts is the D35 rear (TJ D44 is an easy swap)

The World Class T5 is what we are use to seeing in Australia had much stronger internals, the T5 found in Jeeps is a standard T5 and are noisy and dont like high torque abuse

You can build a WC T5 parts inside a standard T5 case but cost is normally not worth it

Quickest and cheapest is replace it plenty of 2nd hand ones around around the 1K to 1.5K mark depending on condition and how many parts

good option but more dollars is rebuild it as a stroker 4.5L or 4.7L

After that V8 is always a good choice but $$$ add up real fast
