I have a 89 Rangie, 3.5 v8 with zf 4sp auto running straight gas, and she runs like a dream!

Going from the old flappy paddle efi to straight gas has been the best thing ive done to the car, so far no issues.

I my opinion it was better to go straight gas with 3 tanks (1 inside, 2 underneath) as my ...

89 Range Rover, 3.5, Auto

Straight gas, upgraded ignition, headers

Best 17 L/100 km (Gas @ $.419 cpl = $7.12/100 km) - Highway driving (Melbourne - Phillip Island)

Worst 27 L/100 km (Gas @ $.419 cpl = $11.31/100 km) - Been silly round town, little off road work

Average 21-24 L/100 km (Gas ...

common items to go

-HVAC motors (requires dash to be pulled apart)
-valve block (for air suspension)
-air compressor (it has a plastic piston)
-air bags

otherwise clean, well looked after example with a 4.6 is a really nice car

Well you did ask for options...

Check out: http://www.marks4wd.com, if you haven't already.

Just had a quick look, a Chevy Diesel V8 conversion kit costs around $3000, but I'm not sure how much motors are.

Here's a link to a pic from the site:

ZF Auto = Make sure its been serviced, or get it done, other wise great gearbox

Viscous Transfer = May be broken therefore not giving you proper drive, again if its been looked after, should still be good

EFI Engines = Check all vacuum lines, injectors may be leaky, distributor vacuum and ...

from what i'm told, when the vc goes it locks on constantly sending power to both axles. a mate of mine had a vc fail and he drove around with a locked centre diff and it placed massive driveline stress in normal driving, so i imagine it may have effect on steering.

just another thing i read somewhere bout the ZF. they say it doesn't pump oil to the cooler in either N or P and that it just sits there and gets hot, they said about 15 mins at idle before it started to overheat. I can't confirm this, but thought it maybe worth while following up...

If your going to use a second hand cooler just make sure it's not blocked and clean inside.
