No, all he needs is the overdrive gears out of it to fit into a R150/151 as he wants a 30% overdrive and that's how he can get it.

You will be looking at some coin to do all this so are you sure your rig will "pull" a 30 ...

Ok the R154 will not fit behind a 2.8 unless you mod the bell, fab a spacer or have one cast.

However, you could do research on the later Prado and Hilux's that used the R series and their bellhousings as I understand they used a longer input shaft R series, but how much longer than the older R ...

Be aware the R154 has a 30mm longer input shaft than the R150/151's so it will not be a straight bolt up without a spacer or modified bellhousing, depending on your engine.

If you can locate a R452 trans from a Dyna truck its overdrive gear is a straight swap into a R150 ...

It will, but the auto requires several specific sensors and also an ecu. Even though you will have these in your spare 4Runner etc don't even try this swap into the 3Y rig as believe me the necessary electrics are a nightmare.

I'd say its KW meaning 512rwhp as that torque number couldn't be ft lbs ubless you can have either showing.

If thats the case then maybe they mean FWHP. But why are there no rpm's indicated and the speed seems very low for the rpms required to churn out 512rwhp so it all seems a bit odd to me.

4Runner with 347 Ford.

Only using a custom mpg cam but since being dyno tuned I have fixed an airbox issue that was robbing 9hp so it will now be around 360rwhp (265rwkw). 32" tyres and 4.56 diff ratio.

1) It will require mods to adapt a transfer.

2) Not feasible

3) NO. Uses a hydraulic transfer requiring an ECU.

4) If you must go auto this is what I would pic and have it beefed up etc and use basic model not electronic controlled etc.

If you are comparing a Surf diesel auto with a 4Runner petrol auto as per your post title then the answer is no they are not interchangeable.

A 5.0 efi engine uses a 50oz balance flywheel whereas the early 302/351W and 351C use a 28oz balance.

The 351C also uses a 164 tooth flywheel and the 5.0 is 157 tooth so depending on your bell the starter could also be an issue.

It will no doubt be a G52.

The R150/151 is a factory setup in Surf turbo diesels but they use the 2.4

Get the bellhousing etc from a Surf and it should be a straight bolt up.

Nope as you will have to pull it apart and remove and refit the main shaft gears onto the longer main shaft as is used in the R154 :D

Yep, the later Hilux turbo 5 speeds use a R151 but I believe they have a longer imput shaft than the earlier R151, ie probably the same as used in the US Taco ?. Probably worth checking though.

The Dyna box has a short shaft same as the earlier R series as it is an R series, R452 :D

No, I made that webpage sometime ago to show someone else etc using an adapter a mate had.

I seem to recall at that time this adapter was arund $500 and if that's the case now, if it was me I'd be looking at importing Marlins actual bell as including postage it would only be a tad more.

Just for your info the 4Runner auto will do all that and more no problems as well as shift from high to low while moving, ie it can be accidently slotted into low at 100kph as the ecu won't allow this change to occur until all the rpm's are correct etc so at normal 4wd pace it will also ...

the bell housing is to suit "hilux" to turbo pattern v8 holden bought it years ago off ebay :bad-words: so no idea what box it suits might hav et oget the old holes tigged and re drill it myself Pprobably a G52 bell and I wouldn't try to modify it to fit an R series as they are completely different ...

Sounds like it as the only 4Runner with an R series box is the V6, all others are G52 so unless you brought a V6 box or bellhousing then you have the wrong one

Surf turbo diesels also have the R series in either R150 or R151 configuration, ie different 1st gear ratios.

Well since my post in Jan I have fitted my custom PWR rad and I am now running in a new engine ready for a rechip etc.

But there is a HUGE problem.

It now runs way too COLD. So far I have fitted the hottest thermostat available yet it's still too cold.

My previous rad was a copper 50mm double ...

We did a deal, I sent him some Oz 4wd parts he wanted and he located them for me.

The same Oz Patrols came with a cable operated rear swaybar ...
