Has anybody ever tried ( or can it be done ) putting a prado 3.4 motor into where the 3.0 4runner motor is? If it can be done it looks like a good option for a bit of a power up over going to all the effort of putting a commodore v6 into it or similar.

I put a 4Y in my 84 4runner. Mine is on LPG. I put the electronic ignition from a tarago with extractors and a good exhaust on it. I think is flies compared to the old 3Y and the 1.3 zook I used to have. Very economical on the lpg and I can actually outpull my mates GQ with the petrol motor in it. BT

Hi, I just put electronic ignition on my 84 hilux. It has a 3Y in it. I just got a later model electronic ifnition and it went straight in. It has the coil in the dizzy cap so I got rid of the old one and wiring and connected the new one straight in. Very easy operation and made a big differance. BT

I have an 84 4 runner with the original 3Y in it. The alternator/regulator has failed and was wondering if there was an alternatative with an internal reg that will bolt on. I did a search but couldn't see anything applicable.
