GQ petrol and diesel common parts

Hey,

Thinking of buying a wrecked TB42 GQ for spare parts, i currently have a TD42 GQ. Just wondering whats parts are interchangable, mainly is the gearbox a straight swap? I imagine everything else in the driveline, diffs etc are exactly the same?

Cheers

after the fit air intake part, unplug fuel solenoid from injector pump and crank for 20 sec, gets oil all through the turbo before starting for the first time, will make your turbo last alot longer

The through-out bearing is a different size to. I'm sure you could easily work around this though, just something to look at.

I tried to use my mates GQ throughout bearing after waiting for over 4 weeks for nissan to order me one for my GU. No way it was fitting on there

Re: Help needed with lift on a GQ

be prepared for viabrations with 5in on a shorty. Some get lucky bogged. mine only had a slight vibration if i didn't grease the shaft every month or so. I didn't have gearbox packers either. Can't help ya too much on what to do with the lowers, i just got new ones $300 pair. have seen people weld ...

Adjustable upper arms worked better for me because it keeps the wheel more centralised when at full compression. But get your lower arms strengthened anyway, have seen way too many people snap lower arms then diff rotates and there goes ya pinion as well. Apart from that all the gear you mentioned ...

I used standard shaft in my shorty with a 5 inch lift. Just got adjustable upper arms ( just over $300 for pair) It still had a very slight vibration if the grease wasn't kept up to it. It is beter to shorten your upper arms than lengthen the lowers as it will keep your tyre central in the arch at ...

I've now got bighorns on my GU ute, i've only had them a week so can't comment on wear but happy so far. $275 for 285/75 r16

For a tourer remember fuel economy. As Mad Cruiser said, what gearing you running and are you prepared to change it. I have a TD 80 series and went from 12 l/100km on 31s to 17 l/100km with 33's so there is a big consideration there if you do a lot of k's. (I do and it hurts at the pump). However ...

GQ wagon, high miler or blown engine, maybe even some damage at rear, from an auction should be well under $4000. Cut into dual/extra cab, make your own tray. If you get a wagon with the small motor you get diff ratios well suited to the big rubber, and you don't care what original motor is in ...

The only reason to get one would be so that you can clean and reuse, and i've heard that finer filter works better at keeping dust out.
