yep no worries ,I'm in bairnsdale East Gippsland Vic
The boxs are around 30 kilos,
Their not to bad as long as you dont put a torquey 308 in front of them
Should'nt be a problem with a standard 253

Its been awhile ,but from memory i had to change the selecter shafts an their lockouts on the 4th gear selectors ,fit selector fork for 5th ,
You have to remove the oil splash ring off the back of the main shaft an fit 5th ...

the electric motor that runs the trip an odometer isprobably on the way out or theres a bad connection .
If you can get hold of another motor from a wreck its about an hours work to replace your old one.

I've bought brake parts an various other parts through both 4h an Eastcoast 4wd on ebay with no problems
Both gave great service an no worries with any problems
Would not hesitate to get parts through either one again .

79 model never had a 5spd, if it is a LN46 (diesel)they originally had a 4spd that can be rebuilt with the appropriatte parts to become a 5spd ,an are quite easy to make a dust cover for,just need 1mm plate an a jigsaw, But dont waste your time these boxs are to weak(4 blown up boxs sitting in the ...

Kleenbreak industrial kitchen cleaner from Milestone,great for cleaning carby parts ,good degreaser an only $24 for 5 litres
Just dilutes in water to what ever strength you want or use it in a spray bottle straight
Last carby i did i just rinsed with a bit of unleaded an then blew it out with air

my mate wants to know if he can run a turbo setup on his motor which has a chemi welded head? anyone done it, will it hold up with the extra strain?

chemi weld IS NOT a permanent repair. it will fail regardless of it being turbo'd. The extra pressure will make it fail faster.

Its the draglink that will hit the U bolt
Using the forged U bolts on the drivers side gives a little more clearance for the draglink ,Also you can swap the draglink around so the longer end is at the box an shorter at the J-arm.
Otherwise you have to start looking at a dropped adjustable draglink ...

How much lift has it got?
How close is the J arm end of the draglink to the U bolts ?
What U bolts have you got on drivers side ,Flat topped forged or standard ones ?

End of draglink maybe touching U bolt when driving,

Built one for offroad racing about 10 years ago an used a cut down escort rack an pinion
Also had subaru disc brakes mated to HQ hubs on the rear an full indipendant suspension ,
Gave us a fairly hairy ride at about 120kms down through the pine plantations near mount cole
Also cost me a kneecap ...

I had similiar problem ,but mine would transmit when first turned on
Once it warmed up it wouldnt transmit at all
Local communications shop tested it an found a couple of bad connections inside unit
Cost me $50 to get it fixed

79 lux ,32" silverstones, 308 an 5spd
changed ratio from 4.8 to 4.3
I got the power to turn them just needed a bit better economy to be able to afford to wear them out

I had bad axle wrap problems on a hilux based buggy
I ended up using 2 panhard rods from a commodore with solid rod slipped up the inside of them to make my traction bar
I used a shackle on the front of the bar instead of the slip an twist setup
So far it has worked a treat an has handled a fair ...

I suspect mine is not as strong as the passenger's side because of the flat top.

If you use aftermarket forged U bolts the top section of the U bolt is made flatter to allow clearance for the drag link
