If you have the standard Carb try disconnecting the idle up - a green connector block (on UK specs anyway) - easy way to see if it's the source of the problem.

Mine has the same symptoms i think -high pitched whine under load - worse in the higher gears!

Let me know how you get on. Gonna take a look at the wheel bearings but am suspecting gearbox :cry:
